I know a feller who is looking at a 348 and is having a PPI performed. Looking for a preliminary estimate as to what the mechanic should be looking for in regards to acceptable engine tolerances. 8-15% leak max ok? I'm just not 100% sure with 348s.

    thanks all.

I'm no expert but I would say "Hell No!". I think 2% is considered "perfect" or as new. I would think anything over 8% would need to be addressed. Only reason I have any idea here is my 348 just went through a complete top end rebuild. Just my novice 2 cents though. I'm sure one of the experts will speak up here. :)

My personal cutoff point is around 13% although plenty of people run 13-15% leakdown motors just fine and they pass emissions and have good performance etc. For instance, prior the the rebuild, my 308 was around 15% across the motor and dyno'd better than any stock carb 308 I have ever seen and always passed emissions. I know later cars call for different schools of thought so I am hoping someone keys in :)

I think I might accept up to 8%; 10% might be a reach though. Depends on what the Ferrari mechanic thinks.
