Paul: you will always see a higher top speed without a wing. Thats the bottom line. This has been proven by magazine testers who do this for a living, and many privateers since.
Next summer will see some high figures for sure but lets have pics of speedo dials only as aleast some sort of proof should be shown.. If GPS can be fitted next to it then a true figure will be seen.. Roll on summer
We cant wait to see. Since you are the one suggesting same, I know at least one magazine editor who will take you up on that and do a proper top speed test ASAP. No need to wait till next summer. The car will be hooked up with a proper V Box speed measuring device (using GPS of course) so that the speed recorded is accurate, and the car will be tested for top speed with and without wing. Let me know when you are available and I will set it up. I have read speed tests concluding that most Countach speedos are 10% off. Accordingly a speedo pic showing 185 mph is actually a rather unimpressive true 167 mph, so all this talk of pics is for pure entertainment. Great for bar chatter, but far from conclusive. Lets see what these cars really do! Whilst doing a test for top speed, we might as well establish how long it takes to get there, too. Its about time a Countach was thoroughly and independently tested in recent times because now the technology exists for accurate recordings. By the way, check out this interesting thread. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=255868
My point on the speedo pics is more on showing you have been up there be it accurate or not.. It is at least some way of showing rather than as said bar chat ( Yeah I did 300KPH in MY CT last week). On the Magazine idea, I would be interested in discussing these ideas you have mentioned. Let's look at trying to set something up.
i seem to remember aled QV DD with wing, ANSA SPORT and fine tuned has not real problems in "cleaning" all the speedo!
Emilio: are you speaking of Piero's (Pierluigi Martini ex-F1 driver) red car used by Peter Dron in the Fast Lane speed test circa 1986? Do you realize they used Italian mile-markers and a stop-watch to deduce those numbers? Lets move out of the dark ages and into the age of real accuracy using a GPS V Box speed-measuring device.
Joe I would be happy to use my car to do some tests for speed. I may be asked to the Uk 'race the runway' v max trials with the car. That wont be till the spring here now. Alternatively would be happy to use my car on a circuit such as millbrook or gaydon in the UK if you have connections. Not sure i want to do the 0-whatever stuff as all that does is stuff your clutch! I don't mind high speed driving and in the old days used to cruise at 135mph and als o above 150mph fairly regularly in numerous cars. In fairness anyone can go fast, it's the stopping that requires skill especially in a CT. Paul xx
Thanks Paul, this is already in the works. A QV and an Anniversary at least. Any other UK Countach owners let me know.
Joe I do know a few but not sure how many would be happy to try and v max their cars. Will check with a guy with a anni and see what he says. he lives in Edinburgh but suspect he wouldnt want to drive his car too hard. Paul
We already have the Anniversary offered - 123quackers. I will let you know if the editor wants to use the different variants, or just one car.
Hi I have an LP670-4 SV which I photo on blackberry at 205mph........and another a little higher....... Would this invite be extended to a murky murci owner?! Regards Anjum
I think the modern-era Murci's have been thoroughly and accurately tested using current timing technology. This is about testing Countachs to establish if the top speed numbers arrived at in the 70s & 80s using inaccurate speedos, mile markers, and hand-held stopwatches were more myth than fact.
212mph in my Diablo VTTT 209mph in my Diablo GTR with Roland Linder behind me in his F40 LM bouncing off the rev limiter at 205mph - Ahhh those were the days...
Not to mention hitting the rev limiter in 4th gear in the 360 GT on B.S. On video. You can pay me in Enzos to defend you Rusty!
How about throwing in a Miura into the tests as well? Dont know which owner would be willing to try it, but putting 40-50 years of myths and rumours into some semblance of reality sure seems a good idea... PS bring a BB too, that was the fight of those days, Countach V BB, then the TR..
A testarossa which is raced in one of the Ferrari series was put against a road version CT anniversario and the Ferrari lost by over a clear second... The CT had no brakes either we might add..
nope, nope i speack of my friend's A. DD black car he cleaned all the speed more than once recently on his winged car (no GPS verified speed, sorry)
