need help i have a 1990 Mondial T with a problem im not being able to fix after driving it for a period of time the engine feels like it's loosing or down on power then after being shut off and restarted it will run fine for 10-15 miles then the problem starts all over again. service light for cylinders 5-8 and the slow down light comes on. It has a new 02 sensor, thermo coupler and the ecu's have beeN swapped side to side to see if the error code will switch banks. drove it again today service light 5-8 on.......retested the codes and now i also have a 2411 and a 2413 code...my questions are 1- am i getting in over my head and should it see a dealer 2- what do these codes mean 3- has anyone had a similar problem and what was the final fix car just had a major service with a t/belt, and new a/c lines...could something have been knocked loose somewhere?
I tried to look up your codes but they don't match the ones in my workshop manual. Can you check the codes again? BTW, if we can't find the OBD code to see what the car thinks is wrong, a simple exercise is to look for a loose electrical connection. Common issue when I had a Mondial T. Particularly the connectors at the air flow meters and the round plug at the side of the engine bay. Poor strain relief and support allowed the wires to droop over time and lose contact. My car became very reliable after I cleaned as many connections as I could reach, made sure the harnesses had enough slack so that they weren't pulling on the connectors, and zip-tied the wires so that they were well supported. Spent the week end attacking the electrical system with amazing results. New lights and functions of the car re-appearing miraculously. I am slowly witnessing the electrical board meltdown but I tried to get in ther and clean things up and re-solder connections. Cleaned all contacts that looked problematic and the dashboard has new life; dash lights are brighter and the speedomerter and tach do not wiggle at idle. I will certainly continue in this direction. Thanks for the tip on the connectors in the engine bay. I will check them out next week-end.
I forgot about the fuse box, good move on your part. The circuit board in the fuse box is a multilayer design, which is not a bad thing, but for reasons of load and exposure it delaminates over time. Mine was becoming like an Italian sfoliatella pastry. In fact, my dash lights went out a few times while driving ... the fix was to pull over and wiggle a few relays which would cause the board to flex and make them work again. Just another joy of ownership. Moving the high power circuits off the fusebox (by way of a relay) helped. I think that was the AC and the door windows. However, I don't recall any fusebox issue ever being tied to your original issue - the check engine and slow-down lights. For those I would focus in the engine bay. Lou
Sorry I just noticed your post. Since you have a T, I'm assuming you must have either a 2.5 or 2.7 Motronic system. You can find most of the codes at www.my348.com thanks to NoDoubt. Go down a couple pages, to the Index, and see the link for the ECU. Some codes are unknown, but you may ask in the 348/355 forum (and Mondial T) to see if anyone knows. http://www.my348.com/
This happens very irregularly. I suspect spark plug wires. I think they are original material. Besides the obvious of changing the spark plug wires, any other thoughts as to the origin of this? It started after I went into the fuse box and re-soldered a bunch of terminals that were loose. Good response from the dashboard but now I have this very intermittant miss and transient check engine 1-4 on for about two seconds. Randall
We have had similar problems but the appropriate codes were stored (o2 and Crank sensors). Your codes appear to be undocumented on FChat. If the engine came out, connectors and grounds are suspect (I think the ECU's are grounded to the cam covers). Some people use stabilaiant 22a on the connectors which can be finicky. Good Luck, Dave
Now the miss has gotten worse. It only happens on acceleration. Iw ill check all that you have mentioned. Randall
The coil for 1-4 was not firing in cyclinder 1. Have ordered coil from Eurospares. Tried to find a better price but the list in 348 parts exchange was not helpful. Randall
Coil not firing on cylinder 1. Replaced coil from Eurospares-running great. Still would like more info on the coil sources. Randall
