If the service history of my 05 430 is representative, it's quite telling. In the 1st couple years, there was a bunch of minor issues: inoperative door latch/power seat etc. requiring multiple trips to the dealer, in the 3rd yr (final yr of warranty) there was the common major RR of the exahust manifolds and brackets. Then car got a 2nd owner and a 1-yr Power warranty, but no service required whatsoever after set of new front pads done at the required warranty inspection. I acquired the car with a Power warranty; the required inspection "sailed thru with flying colors" except for weakish battery.

My point is, since I live >1 hr away from the nearest dealership, had I owned the car from new, it would have driven me crazy in the 1st 2 years, taking the car in for all those minor issues. And now, seems like the car settles down to a quietly reliable mid-life! That's consistent re my experience with my 1st Fcar also.

I understand the unique pleasure of driving a brand new car. However, since most of us probably live an hr or more from a dealership, that's something to consider, no? Or is my car's service "curve" unusual?

Most people here probably don't care, but another really great reason to never buy a brand new car is they all, and I mean all of them, are still leaching dangerous chemicals, sometimes for a couple of years. Sometimes they smell noxious. Somehow, Porsche managed to make the new car smell in my first Cayenne reminiscent of cookies. I'm sure both were equally poisonous. Fact is even an older car will give you one hell of a dose of benzene after several hours in the hot sun of you don't bother to ventilate when you get in. But the worst is that oh so sweet new car smell.

The things you learn being married to a nutritionist. Sorry for going immediately off topic. Having someone else deal with recalls is nice, too.

Its good news for guys like me, who swear by buying only used vehicles. I bought my daily driver ten years old, with a sufficient service history that detailed all the little things that had to be done to the car. Since I've owned it, it hasn't needed anything aside from its scheduled oil changes. I believe its a commonality that most vehicles share, not just Ferraris.

I've had my 05 since new and had very few problems although the manifolds were replaced at 3 years/12K miles. I didn't bother getting an extended warranty and have had no problems in the last 2+ years. BTW, my dealer is 2.5 hours away.
