I'm heading to San Marcos this weekend for more crap-can endurance racing. I haven't seen much discussion about the Harris Hill Road track... lots on ECR and the MSRs...

This track is new to all of us on the team... Any advice or tips from people who have driven this track?

    Hotel recommendations also welcome.

    Thanks!

Dave, been out there many times. I haven't been out there since they resurfaced two months ago. Course should be CW.

I'd watch videos by Barry Anders on Vimeo. http://vimeo.com/txexige He runs a better line than most of the videos I've seen out there. I'd suggest this one in particular: http://vimeo.com/3543658

A few quick notes - T1 you won't see until you've gone around once - the blend line avoids T1. T2 and T3 are one corner, which the apex isn't a typical apex at all. Concentrate on T2, look up the hill, and if you are hitting it just right, you'll be on apex which isn't near the edge of the right of hte road. Going into T4/Santa Rita at the top of the hill, if you don't have the brakes, you'll have to adjust the line. You'll see some guys unfamiliar with the track go all the way to the back and then down the hill. In high horsepower cars it might be fine, but heck, even in 450rwhp Z06's, I still prefer to hug that inside line.

T5, comes downhill, off camber, a little blind. You can go outside and then come in, or you can taper the line to the inside on the left. That is what I prefer, because there's a shorter distance and I cannot really get full on the gas until the straight to T6 starts to open. Approaching T6 is full on. You hit it just right and you shouldn't need to lift. But that isn't for everyone. If you intend on lifting/braking, do it before you think about turning the wheel and going into the corner. i.e. - lift, then power through the corner. There's more track out there than you can see, but not that much. You can push through and the car will push all the way to the outside on the left. T7 is a typical late apex corner. Moderate throttle to T8. Taper the corner to the left through T8 and then easily drift the car over to the right to hold through T9 which will slowly push you out to the left side again.

You'll be carrying some speed through T9. Pay attention to T10, everything can feel loose through 9, but when you line up for 10, you'll want to mark it by the transformer in the distance, or by where the gatorstrips on the track start or drop off, and measure car lengths from it. Through 10, don't take it too wide. There's not too much speed to gain here. It is a small tight uphill right hander. Go through, follow rumble strips on the left start - then go to the right. This leads you onto the front straight, which, if you intend on lifting, do it at the start/finish line, not through the middle of T1. Offs can be not too kind there.

This is just a brief guide. But watch the video over and over, make sure you know where you are. Only 11 turns! The blend line is to the left when you come out of T1, or blending into T2 if you are coming through the blend line. The pit in is in the middle of T10.

If you want any other tips, just ask. I'm sure there are others who can chime in w/their experience.

The above description is pretty accurate to me. Then again, I'm not the fasted guy around H2R, but I usually hold my own. BTW, it wasn't a full re-pave. Just the critical areas were addressed. It's MUCH better than before.
