I sold 7 of them but 3 cars twice.
Great idea of the Historic race committee to have a GTO race with all the ex touring car greats at next years Historic race meeting, which is in honour of Enzo Ferrari, can't wait a one hour race with Australia's greats of another era,our own little South Pacific Goodwood.

Turning a 330 into a fake GTO is only a tribute to the builder's appaling lack of taste.

As to the original post's question; I am glad to hear, Matt, that you are mechanically inclined. My impression of the younger Ferrari owners whose only experience is with the newer Ferraris (or newer performance cars in general) is that, when they dip their toe into the vintage Ferrari waters, the "romance" of vintage Ferrari ownership turns out to be a lot different than what they had imagined.

An old car has to be maintained. An old car doesn't stop, accelerate, or generally do anything as well as the new cars do, except for keeping the driver much more engaged w/ the driving experience. Add to that the contankerousness/finickiness quotient that comes w/ an old performance car like a Ferrari, and you have your work cut out for you. You have to pay attention to the car, when driving it and maintaining it. It cannot be treated like the appliances that most new cars tend to be.

Lastly, if you understand why the picture below is both hilarious and simultaneously stands for everything that is wrong w/ the Ferrari community, then I think you are fit to own a 330GT!! (FYI, the 330 America (NY) drove further than the car on the trailer (NJ) to get to Cavallino). Welcome to the club and enjoy smelling like some combination of gas and oil when you step out of the car after a spirited drive!

Gee Bryan, I hate to say it but you are right again! WOW that's now twice in one year! When I first saw that photo I had a good laugh. Brilliant photo. So Matt if you like that photo then a vintage V12 might be for you, but as Bryan said you have to like the smell of gasoline/old oil and old leather in the morning (and afternoon and evening.) Good luck they are great cars. A real blast to drive and they feel special. Check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtrhXdNY1e4 If that video appeals to you then go for an old banger. Also I think Yale above said the people you meet in the vintage world are cool. Well I wouldn't say a bunch of old farts are cool but they are a bunch of GREAT guys who love old cars and have FUN with this hobby.
    Good luck.
    John

Well, as for "fakes", I passed on a new Ferrari and bought a beautiful 250 SWB California rebody when I turned 35 and have enjoyed every minute of it. It's not as fast as my friends' 360/430, but who needs to go 90mph around every corner?!

It's a "put hair on your chest" man's car that sounds better, gets more looks and feels more like real driving that any modern Ferrari. Yes, you'll smell like oil and exhaust when you get out, but what a blast. It's a Ferrari hot rod for those who like to DRIVE and tinker, not pose.

And yes, Kare, a lovely 365 GT2+2 gave up it's soul for it. RIP.

I don't care if you are aussies, kiwis, yanks, frenchies, or brits.

The joke is stale, repetitive, and in poor taste.

Congratulations for ruining an interesting thread, and bringing once again trollery and conflict to the vintage section.

A fake, driven by a faker.

And if you need a car to put hair on your chest, your fakery clearly extends to your masculinity.

For your instruction, many other people DRIVE, tinker, smell like oil, and don't give a **** about posing. But unlike you they do it with a real Ferrari.
