There is one in England that's done 160.000 miles, so the engines are bulletproof (for what it's worth).

 

The EVO car has had a bunch of stuff repaired under warranty though. It has a lot of miles and hard driven miles but i remember that it did visit the dealer several times.

 

True, but much of the work was due to that car seeing lots of track time...

 

I know of a 2003 that is used as a daily. Drives the snot out of it too and the car keeps coming back for more.

 

Sure if you throw enough money at it anything can hold up.

 

IMO, many lambos are not used as daily drivers due to the [perceived] depreciation effect rather than the cars ability to be used as such.

That's what scares me about buying one. Regular maintenance is expensive but understandable . Plus parts seem to be very expensive and no way around it not like with Ferrari where you can get parts from other cars.

Maybe for the Diablo but not for a Murcielago. My neighbor daily drives his LP 640 with no problems, and we live in Michigan. Last time I checked parts for a 360 or 430 where not exactly cheap.

 

so true but you can find many parts from other car makers which help greatly ...and many thing you can do yourself

i drive on average of 8-10k per year and I feel that driving a Murci that much, it require much maintenance. which would make it cost prohibitive.

i very much want a Murci but repairs scare the H^ll out of me ...


i see no reason why a clutch job should cost $10k and only designed to last 12k miles and only if used gently

honestly the murcielagos are pretty reliable cars
clutch can lost well over 30k Kms if used properly

 

how can anyone say Murcis are reliable if the vast majority have under 35k miles. Its rare to see one over 50k and unheard of to see 75k + expect for the one that was featured in EVO

 

i had seen some cars with a good amount of Kms here (italy)

a 6.2 with almost 100k kms
and an LP640 with some 70k Kms that just went trough regular maintenance + 1 clutch

you do not see high mile Murcis, i would not be scared to buy a high mile one.

I have been driving my Diablo every day for almost 4 months now , I would think a Murcielago is a little more refined and newer so it would be even better , the Diablo is no small car .

 

The Murci could be the most reliable Lamborghini made from what I have seen. I wouldn't want to dd one, the drama around it is a little too much. I guess in my 20's it would be fun to dd one, but now I would prefer to slip in & out of places & not worry about what I had sitting in the parking lot. Now for a fun car though, I want one.

 

I do not think it is more reliable then Gallardo but saying it is the most reliable does not mean much because previous models were highly unreliable

 

I had my 2003 Murcie, bought new..went from 120 miles to a bit over 32,000 miles prior to selling it, still lives here in Seattle and at about 40K with the new owner AND still on the same OEM first factory clutch. Always regular service and tires, only major thing a water pump at 22K miles.

My 2007 Blue LP640 new from 166 miles to a bit over 17K miles, it currently lives in San Fran..a few weeks ago I was at Lamborghini San Fran. The car was there for service. The tech recalled the car being mine...he asked me if I had ever replaced the clutch. I said no..he said they had pulled the motor for a new clutch per the new owner that just bought it from a bank auction provider. He was amazed to see the clutch was at well then 65% left and was the best he had seen for the miles. Never a problem, just standard maintance.

My 2010 LP670-4SV from new 65 miles to just clicked over the 15,000 mark. Still orginal OEM clutch and nothing else to be done. So far not a single issue, all just standard maintance...and my winter snow tires go on it Monday.

I am not a mechanic but I will swear to real life experiance..which is simple, maintain it correctly and operate it on a regular bases and you shall have many many miles of smiles and trouble free enjoyment.

My 2001 Diablo 6.0 SE#19..as well, from new to now approaching 40,000 miles, STILL first clutch and still performs perfectly every day. Not an issue, even the front shocks dont leak.

In my book my Lambos have been 10 times more reliable then my multiple 355 and 360 cars I had prior to switching to the Lambo Brand. Not to mention the day to day cost of upkeep well below the other brands cost...AND I DROVE all my F cars just as much as I do my Lambo's. Come to think of it, I never see high mile 360 430 cars, probabluy less then Lambo miles in comparisson.

 

Roy, I will come see you when I'm ready for a Murci . Ive never heard anyone say Lambo is less expensive to maintain then ferrari especially 360 and newer .

You are one of the few who drive their cars but between the two marquees I think people generally drive their Ferrari more then Lambo. If one was to look right now at the cars for sell Ferrari will have more miles on average then Lambo

That was a convincing write up and now I'm thinking harder.

 

This car required an entire rebuild of the engine due to the crankshaft pulley shearing off at less than 40k miles. Lamborghini wasn't technically required to do anything as it was out of it's 36k warranty. They did however cover the parts cost which saved the owner some $20k. I would venture to guess that had this car not been in EVO magazine and all eyes on it, there would have been no compensation. Yes, this car had covered and estimated 7k track miles by this time which is a lot more aggressive driving than the average Joe. Nonetheless it required a $40k engine rebuild within 40k miles. Scary. There are many other minor (but costly) services that were required throughout the ownership. I followed the story until the car had 60k +/- miles. I'd venture to guess that there is another major rebuild somewhere in between 40k and 160k.

There is another thread on a different Lambo forum in which a gentleman bought an early Murci in Germany just this spring and his last post not long ago was asking for help to source a used engine. Now Roy and many others have had good luck with these cars, but just wanted to point out that it's not always sunshine and happiness.

I like to think of buying these exotics is a little like playing Russian roulette. The cylinder holds six shells. I would say that with the 360, 430, Gallardo and LP-640, you only load one shell into the cylinder. Now with a 348, later Diablo's and early Murcielago's you load two. Early Diablo's, 355's and Testarossa's use three shells and of course the early Jaguar XJS V-12 models require five shells.
