LCT is 33% I'll come up with another reason why you can't buy one. (anything for the sake of every used Ferrari )
Brett, if you ever say "It's just a 308..." again I'll have you banned for life. Glad you had a great Rally. Glad your car went well. Glad you got back safely. Especially glad you beat moretti by 3 seconds!!!
+1 My back of the envelope calcn ready to go on the road is $385k But we are wasting our time, Robert is a gunna
SO, to the track day, which was what I set as my target to be successful at for my first rally. I want to start by saying that I'm not interested in getting into who won and by how much. I only needed to win by 0.01 seconds to claim victory and I did that so won the day. While on that, Simon, it was very nice to meet you. They say opposites attract and you and Goobs are definitely opposites. I'll start by saying that I was not disappointed with the 308 on the track. I found it quite fun to drive and it was very responsive to my inputs after tuning it during Practice 1 and Sprint 1. In Sprint 2, I managed to put together some good times. Simon got my best time at 1.25.2 but the official time was 1.26.1 so I was very happy. This is my first time in a Ferrari and a mid engined car for that matter on a circuit, so it has been a huge learning curve for me. It was also my first visit to Mallala. I liked the circuit but there were some hard corners, in particular turn 1. I still have lots to learn about setting the car up and reckon there is a good 1 - 1.5 seconds at least to be trimmed off those times. This would come from mainly the driver (me ) and also on set up. The car was very soft and rolled a lot as can be seen from the pic below. I only had 55 minutes of neg cam as well, so the car tended to push a bit. Sprint 3 I tried to be a little more aggressive in my driving to see how the car reacted and it basically didn't like it. My times were slower. You know the old saying "you've gotta drive slow to go fast" (JM ) These cars have no torque so I had to change my driving style to that of driving the HSV which had 800N-m in torque. With the 308 I braked early to allow me to carry more corner speed which in turn allowed higher speed down the straights. Anyway, I got a lot of positive comments on my driving and many came up to me all excited about the flames coming out the back. Sorry for the quality, but the on track shots are photos of photos. Do the maths again, don't forget 5% duty on purchase price, then 10% Gst on top of this and shipping costs, then LCT. Comes out to about $385k OTR with stamp duty included
youre a champion brett, was good to meet you briefly at morning tea in strathalbyn on the observation run. Im an aspirational Ferrari owner but Im lucky enough to work for Darren with the 348GTC and I kicked myself for missing the fire extinguisher as part of getting it ready for the weekend. You really saved the day, and Darren had a ball - the first FCA event he's been able to get to, after getting his car 12 months ago, being the realisation of a 40 year dream. Anyway, I have to say I everyone I met across the weekend was happy to have a chat and let me poke around their cars - Im embarrassed to say it, but nothing like i expected, I guess I was a victim of believing the ferrari owner stereotype. Not any more! Have set my goal to be driving my own car by the next time SA hosts the rally.
LOL. I was waiting for that Horse. Mate I had the inside wheels on the dirt on some corners. I'm hoping the second photographer got some shots in the esses. I'm confident I had it close to being on two wheels, minimum 3. High curbs really settled the car and I was able to drift onto the front straight. It was a bit like Dandenong corner. Anyway, not bad considering we did the final touches Friday morning, drove to SA, did the rally and drove home with 3 tropies, not a scratch on the car and in mint condition. Other than a wash of course. I'm looking forward to doing the track days with the HSV club next year so I can further improve my drivng in the 308.
Impressive, Brett. I suspected you'd be handy around the track given your past experience with karts and HSV trackdays. Also, given your enthusiasm and effort, I was surprised you did not win the Ron Davis Trophy.
