you raise a good point. What is "best"? some of these cars that look great might run like crap.....

I had been interpreting "best" to be best looking...

That IS a really good point. I am often amazed when a 308 gets a $10k respray when the drivetrain is near shot. I'll admit my 308 does not have the best paint, but it sure does run well and is tip top which is where it counts IMO.

So I guess 'best' means just that. Runs best, looks best, kept-up/restored best. Just with original cars, yes they are fantastic but they are still 30 years old and just well-maintained. New restoration is just that. New and fresh. It's like a Stradivarius violin. An original is absolutely fantastic, but a rebuilt and tuned Stradivarius is perfection.

Im not sure how many "whites" they were using back then, but Im guessing only one since not many were painted white? The paint is whatever color they were using in 1980 so if they were calling it Bianco Avus that's what it is. Its not been retouched or repainted.

I plan to pick the ones with the most answers and put up a poll in a few days - the responses to this thread are great and are bringing out some really spectacular photos and cars!!! Just going to let it run for now.

I intentionally left "best" open to whatever YOU think is best. If its appearances - cool, if its how the car runs - cool, if you think its how the car is modded - cool. I left it vague on purpose though.

Interesting to see that many nominees are coupes and not red. It's great to see so much love for a car that was not preferred (more red/tan, red/black Spiders produced/sold than any other) back in the day.

Well, the bottom line is that all the others look great, but I can't drive them.

So, I know that my answer is . . .

(I -really- should have begged Jim at the Tunica thing)

    Naah, I do!

My 1970's Italian piece of engineering has served as my daily driver on several occasions when my reliable German engineered BMW did not drive because of.... electrical problems.

    The world upside-down :)
