I will be replacing a leaking fuel accumulator on my 1988 testarossa any concerns / tricks I need to know about?
Hi, I don´t think there is anything complicated about changing the fuel accumulator. There will be some fuel coming out ,dripping on the floor, should be carefull about that , you shouldn´t smoke at that time!!!!!! All the best
Leave the car standing for a while before you start the work. Usually the fuel pressure will have diminished after a few days. After this don't put it on ignition of course so it does not build up pressure again. Alternatively you can disconnect the fuel pumps with the engine running until it dies, so the fuel pressure is drained off that way. And better safe than sorry - disconnect the battery and keep all sources of ignition away, work in a very well ventilated area, and preferably do not drop your tools on the ground while working. Keep extinguisher and fire blanket handy. Preferably work with an assistant. Have a smoke well away from the car and working area when done.
thanks for your tips I recieved the fuel accumulator and it is about 1/2 inch bigger diameter and 1 1/2 in longer than the old one. The part number severeal places gave was the one I ordered bosch BS0438170004 is this correct? just found out they shipped the wrong part
If you use an incandescent trouble light, don't place it under what you are removing. If any fuel drips on the hot bulb the bulb can burst and ignite the fuel. While I've never had to change an accumulator I suspect the fittings are similar to those of a fuel filter. The fittings are quite tight and tend to abruptly come loose. When that happens, it is easy to bash knuckles. What I always do is attach the wrenches in such a way that you squeeze them together to loosen. That way when the fitting suddenly loosens, you will not bash your knuckles or elbows or whatever on other parts of the car.
No, that's not correct for a US version TR, that Bosch PN is for an early euro TR Accumulator. Bosch 0438170042 = F PN 125135 = Accumulator for US version TR (F113A040 engine = KE-Jet with Lambda): Image Unavailable, Please Login Bosch 0438170004 = F PN 113978 = Accumulator for early euro version TR (F113A engine = K-Jet without Lambda): Image Unavailable, Please Login (www.autohausaz.com has the best price that I know of = $100~$110 each for either, or post where if you do better on price)
just bought the 0438170004 for my 400i and paid us$104 by rockauto The 400i has a K Jetronic. I hope that I orderd the right accumulator.
