No spoilers in thread titles. The F1 section isn't just the previous GP. I should be able to navigate to the Ferrari Rollercoaster or F3 vs GTR thread without spoilers. There is no valid reason to allow spoilers in thread titles, not one. The people that complain about it are either natural complainers, or too lazy to think up non-spoiling thread titles, or glory-seeking me-firsters with a desperate need to see their name under the thread title telling the world Jimmy Numbnuts won the World Swamp Buggy Championship at the final round in Jacksonville. Common courtesy has become all too rare these days. Please let the thread titles of the F1 and Other Racing sections remain as the last bastion of common courtesy left in the world, a place where disrespecting our fellow man for the sake of disrespecting our fellow man just isn't allowed.
Seems like a brilliant solution to me....... I lurk here more than post, but the idea that part of a forum should be forced not have meaningful titles seems moronic. But, the forum belongs to the users, and they seem to be speaking. Mark
+1 I don't see a benefit to technically removing the titles from the front page. The moderators do a great job of keeping it in check. Those who are incapable of comprehending the rule have generally acknowledged that they just want to get on here and be the first to post the big exclamatory thread. So we would be trading one problem for another - 20 threads all saying the same thing, started 0.0001 seconds after the incident they want to post about took place. EDIT: If you are contemplating making changes, it would be even more useful if the thread starter could change the thread title, let's say, within 30 minutes of starting the thread. That means that no moderator needs to be bothered, and there would be no excuse for someone to mistakenly put a spoiler because the first person to see it would mention that they should change it.
I hear ya now... If you require B because of A, then A goes away later, you still want B. Instead of fix with no failure rate you prefer status quo with some failure rate. Resist improving change if comfortable with status quo. Socialist style of strong (watch race live/avoid F1 forum) sacrifice for the weak (delay watching/can't avoid F1 forum). No spoilers in title more important than meaningful titles. I appreciate the opinions and I will keep it the same as the majority and most active F1 users want. I wouldnt be a good admin if I did things in a 80k user community only how I wanted them. Thanks.
As the idea is to not throw the baby out with the bathwater and also to not throw the bathwater out with the baby . . . Let's see if there can be an amicable middle ground. What about effective compromise by way of reasonable time cap from finish of race; 3 days 5 days 7 days [3 days = 72 hours from Finish, not "Ooh, I think it's Midnight in New Zealand! Maybe. Me first!"]
not so sure about the wishy washy rules, that seems to be babying everyone. If No Spoiler rule, then I think just simple No Spoilers!
I sense you're disappointed in the response, Rob. Well, I did vote for keeping the status quo mostly because as it stands now, you can not know the race result, and yet still peruse other F1-related threads relatively safely. As to meaningful thread titles, I think titling something as the "Qualifying" or "Race" thread for each round is still a meaningful title as you can discuss the events that happened there within the thread. The proposed change would remove the F1 titles from the main forum, but the subsequent enabling of results in thread titles within that area would make the F1 forum a black box that you couldn't venture into at all if you didn't know all the current results and didn't want to be told yet. That, and there would be a huge rush to create new threads when it emerges that Jimmy Numbnuts won the World Swamp Buggy Championship at the final round in Jacksonville by running overweight and that therefore the title-winning race victory defaults to second place thin man Billy Bubbo Bo Bob Buckleboots. "Numbnuts left numb over defeat to new WSB Champion 5B!!!!!!!1" Just look at how keen some can be at times to try to be the first to post the official qualifying/race thread. I'd be ok with the forum feature to hide the F1 latest thread posting from the main forum, providing we can maintain keeping results out of subject lines. We can still get around this with titles that give nothing away and yet are not meaningless: Monza Qualifying Monza Race World Constructor's Championship World Driver's Championship etc... Even if you can't watch the race live and miss it on replays, it's sometimes nice to have a read through the Race thread from start to end to see how people were commenting as it unfolded, thus finding out the result that way. It's not that I'm resisting change, it's just that there are a lot of good aspects to how things are now and I think the proposed system would do away with those particular benefits. All the best, Andrew.
This rule has been in place since...2007 or so. I think we are all comfortable with it. And Besides, Speedcore is the only one that has to hunt down the character "*" so I think we are all good.
Obligatory "shouldn't this be spoilered" whine because Jos Verstappen has already won the 2011 WDC. Spoiler this, please.
+1 - Just make it the same as for editing posts. [I do recall there's a reason why we can't, but have no idea what it is (?)] Anyway, Rob - Thanks for listening! There were some pretty eloquent & impassioned pleas on the topic - At least from the "keep it as is" crowd. The whiners - not so much.... I wish I hadn't heard about Jimmy Numbnuts lifting the WSBRC though Cheers, Ian
Was that a pacifier that just flew past my head? I don't think there's anything wrong with thinking things are fine as they are. As was said by a lot of folks, there's zero infringement on the ability to discuss anything one wants. But I am glad that as a good admin you listen to the majority, even if it's not what you personally think (no sarcasm intended).
+1 Thats it...that would help big time, as other posters could inform them of the spoiler, I remember telling someone they had made a spoiler by mistake, but they couldn't do a thing about it.
LOL. The spoiler threads usually relate to the events of that race weekend and remind people not to cross-pollinate the results in other threads. It makes the section easier to read so you know where to go if you want to discuss live events etc. Removing the spoilers I can see it becoming a pain for mods and other forumies in the long term. I do see where the "Someone is World Champion" people are coming from, the season is over now so they should be allowed to mention the name in the title 1 week after the end of the season. Everything else should remain the same.

I bet older than that, going to previous software. ...or maybe it was just after moving to vB and the thread titles started appearing on main page, thus my point.
