I'm looking for some recommendations for new rubber on my 355 Challenge wheels. Right now I have Hoosier R6s on there and once those are worn out, I'd like to get something more multi-purpose on there...think "street legal/track/auto-x".

I know they will be somewhat of a compromise but I want to run the Challenge wheels more often and not just have them sit in the garage waiting for the couple track events a year I'll do.

Right now the Hoosier's I have on are:
    Front - 245/35/18
    Rear - 295/30/18

So, any particular brands and sizes I could look at? I live in San Diego so I really don't care if the tires suck in the rain/cold...

    Thanks!

Yokohama AO48. Run the 225/40/18 up front and the 265/35/18 on the rear. These sizes will keep the sidewalls tight and provide sharp turn-in and also make the rears taller than the fronts which is important. The 235/40 should fit the front as well but it's slightly taller and 2 pounds heavier.

I put Nitto N-01 on a set of Challenge wheelss. Very sticky, wear rating of 100, and very cheap and quite

Here's a photo of one of my Yokohama AO 48R's (rear wheel). I'm not a fan of these tyres, or Yokohama anymore.

Or toyo R888's they have the same rubber from the same maker. The r888 has larger grooves and might be better in the wet. I'm not sure vs the nt01 because I have not tried it.

Driving along a straight dual lane highway at 80kmh with a group of other F cars when the tire delaminated. No warning, no puncture, the tread simply peeled off. The tire carcass retained air pressure so was able to bring the car to a safe stop. Lots of witnesses

Yokohama have examined the tire in Japan and verbally admitted liabilty, but after their product liabily insurer became involved, the insurer then denied liabilty, claiming that at some point during its life (not specifically when the tire failed) the tire had been underinflated.

The tire was 2 1/2 years old, had done only 1500 km's, as you can see by the tread, the tire was in perfect condition. There is legal action pending.

The A048 would not be my choice for this kind of cars, it's ok on light cars such the Lotus Elise/Exige but not on Ferrari or Porsche which are to heavy. I used them on competition with my Lotus and even with 850kg, the tire doesn't last long... of course the grip was very good, but after 3 fast laps, the temperature was much too high and you have to slow down for cooling them.
On my Challenge wheels, I put the PZero Corsa which are meant for this kind of use. A good tire for street and occasional track days is the Good Year F1 asymmetric, which is very good on my father's Corvette C6...

I cannot comment on the Yokohama version, but the Toyo R888 version has proven to be extremely durable here in the USA. It is the spec tire in SCCA World Challenge and I routinely purchase 265/35/18 take-offs from the teams running the 997 GT3 Cup cars. When I get them, they already have 3 or 4 heat cycles in them and I can run them for at least 2 more "fast" sessions plus a couple of cruising sessions. (I ran them on all 4 corners of my E46 M3 track day car, not on my F-car.)

I have BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW 2 size 295/35/18 rear and 225/40/18 fronts on my 355 Spider, I put on 5000 miles on these tires mixed track and street use and I'm very happy with them.

Hmm, never heard of any problems with the A048's before. A friend runs them on his EVO at all times and has been through many sets without issue.

Avon's on my Speedline wheels. No complaints. :)

I'd go get the specs for you, but I'm in no condition to walk to the garage.

    1) Mrs. JRR and Luca went up to visit family in Virgina today (I'm going tomorrow).
    2) Mike has been gone all week, so I'm flying solo.
    3) Heavy call volume this week ran me ragged. (a good problem !)
    4) DVR at home crapped out, so I had to fight Wednesday road traffic to get a new one from Time Warner (they suck)
    5) Dog barfed in the office today.
    6) US Customs held a huge box of stuff from Hill Engineering last night.

4.a) Victoria's Secret window at the mall caused me to almost trip over my own two feet.
