    I had the chance to thumb through an owners manual and noticed the plug in the engine compartment. I searched a little to no avail and had a question. Given the state of electronics and computers these days is there an interface and software package for this that a home mechanic could benefit from? What kind of data could one get off of it?

    If this has been discussed before I appologize I wasnt able to find it.

    I want to know this too.

    I have never seen anyone use it or even refer to it.

    That plug is for the factory diagnostic connection for the engine ecu. nothing there that can help you as there is no software, it was a hardwired tool to check the ecu. we used this when car came in new to verify ecu proper operation.

    Tool was called a Jofatron as I recall.

    Well two Dr's on reply! I am moving up! Thanks guys. I had visions of plugging in my laptop and projecting all manor of mixtures and temperatures on the wall as I perform some sort of engine related task. I will look up the tool. Thanks

    We called it the Jokeatron.

    All it really did was show rpm and timing. It had all the cars advance curves programmed in and could tell you not only what the advance was at any given time but also where it was in relation to the programmed curve.

    Yep, all it really did for us was to verify the programming, which was important when vehicle was imported in so as to verify the DOT specification, but not much use after that.

    Also, you will most likely not find the tool as it was a dealer only item and if you do would not be worth it unless it was free. Also remember it was from the same people that made the ecu so most likely it does not work and for sure is not accurate.

    Oh I have one. I only got it because I figure someday someone will want it as a piece of Ferrari memorabilia to go in their garage.
