Ok, sorry for the delay in starting this , Santa has been busy this year and asked if I would help carry on the tradition for 2010 , so here we are with a little Copy-n-Paste:

Time for the official 2010 Secret Santa signup thread.

For those who have participated before, you know the deal. For those who haven't, here's the deal

Secret Santa is a friendly and fun F-chat event where all those who sign up exchange gifts with the sender being anonymous, leaving it up to the recipient to guess who the sender is.

We have done this for 5 years in a row now, and it is always a lot of fun. Here's the info...

    1) To sign up, send an email to safe4nowATaolDOTcom please include your mailling address with your name, as well as your F-Chat username. You don't have to use your home address, just somewhere that you can receive a package - can be home, work, etc. Santa's helper will reply within a day or two (he doesn't check his email every day) letting you know he got your info.

    2) Sign ups will run through the end of the day on December 5th (this Sunday). Within a day or two of closing, "Santa" will randomize the list of people and you will receive an email with the address of the person you will be buying a gift for.

    3) Once you get the persons address, you get a gift and send it to them. You can put your name or your f-chat username on the box if you like, or feel free to keep it a secret and let them guess.

The only two people who have the address are Santa's Helper, and the person who is getting your gift (your secret santa). I keep it absolutely confidential otherwise, so no worries of someone getting your info. I also delete all addresses after it's over, so nothing to worry about in that regard.

What to buy? Well, that's the fun part! I suggest a price limit of $50. You are free to spend more, or less, but it's not a competition to spend the most - just an attempt to find a cool gift. If you aren't sure what to get, you can search on the users posts or look at their profile to see what they like. Or do a google or eBay or Amazon.com search for "Ferrari" and see what comes up. Or get something funny, or unique, or hand-made, or whatever - that's the fun part!

In return, your shipping info will be handed to your assigned santa, who will be sending you a gift.

So, send an email to safe4nowATaolDOTcom and include your mailing address and F-chat username.

You don't need to be located in the USA - residents of all countries are welcome.

You don't need to be a long time or well known user - as long as you are willing to send your gift, you're welcome to participate.

Any and all users, of any and all faiths, in any and all locations are most welcome to participate!

We will keep this thread going with questions and such - and ultimately the gifts, hopefully with pics from the receivers!

Please feel free to PM me as needed,

    SAFE4NOW

A big thank you to Steve for stepping up. I always get busy this time of year and Steve generously offered to do this and cut me, err, Santa, some slack.

Kid: "Oh my God, look at the size of that spider crawling up his back!"

Man I can't identify: "So I was cleaning out my garage and saw a spider that was this big run off. No idea what happened to it. Scariest thing I ever saw."

    All the best,
    Andrew.

I went ahead and sent SS Info to everyone via PM here, that way it would be easier to track if needed.

If, for some reason you do not have / get the PM, please drop me a note and I will follow up ASAP

Than everyone in advance for helping to continue this tradition!

    Got my recipient info! Thanks!

So how does this typically go? Serious gift? Funny gift? And what is the typical
    value point?

whatever floats your boat (or, what you think will float your recipient's boat ;))

$50 has been the suggested limit in the past.

I had to opt out again because $50 won't even cover the postage to get something from the UK to the US, where most people are based. I figured I should ask the wife about participating and unfortunately I got the veto.

I'll have a 'real' job by next year, so should be good to go for 2011. :D

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Fine. No prob there. So silly or serious? I've done many of both over the years in other venues, and it's gone both ways.
