So a dealer told me that Diablo prices were solid evenn Increasing these days.

    Any truth to that ?

I'd love a Diablo w a GT package on it

How does Diablo compare w Ford GT

GTs are at least maintaining their prices & I think they'll do well once the economy improves

Diablos have bottomed out IMO. I have seen a SLIGHT uptick in prices over the bottom about 6 months ago. Not a lot. Maybe 3-5%.

I believe that Diablos are following the EXACT trend that the Countaches followed years ago. For a time, back around 2000, you could get a Countach for $60k-80k and they weren't junk. Then they exploded to where you couldn't find anything under $100-120k. I am certain that the Diablo will do the same and maybe go even higher (especially the 6.0) as they will be "classics" but never really look dated on the exterior.

I do, however, think that, for an investment, the Ford GT is the better purchase. Those cars bottomed out in the $130s with the Heritage models dropping down to the $150k range. Now you practically can't find one for under $150k and that number will only go up over time. Barring Ford going "bye bye" those cars will ALWAYS be the "best car Ford ever made" as they are a 2nd gen, street version of "the best Ford racecar ever made". Basically, Ford can't create a "2nd version" of a better car because there is no such thing (the GT40 won't ever be topped by Ford). Thus, this puts the Ford GT as a highly collectable car. When you add in that MANY of the cars are either not being driven AT ALL and many of the others are getting wrapped by guys who aren't experienced enough drivers to keep them away from telephone poles, the value only increases for cars actually for sale.

I was talking to my wife about this exact same thing last night. 246 Dinos, Countaches and Ferrari Boxers could all be had in the $60-$80K range about 10 years ago. I advised her that we should try to pick up a Diablo sooner rather than later.

If the new Lambo V-12 does not have scissor doors, you can expect the prices for Diablos to shoot up steadily. Additionally I would suppose we can expect to see an aftermarket "Lambo style" door kit for the new V-12 within a few months of the car hitting the states.

It has scissor doors. Thats already been confirmed, they just go out a little while going up for easier access....

Good. I was wondering how Lambo would skirt around the safety regulations/production number issue.

Lamborghini is making a mistake, by having the doors move away from the car. With so many copy-cat gimmick doors, it would be a good idea to leave a good thing as-is. I realize they are just watering down the product, in an effort to expand the customer base.

    William,

The Diablo GT, is the pick of the litter. I believe less than five cars, are located in the U.S.

I don't understand why they had to change the way the doors swing to conform to the regulations regarding access after a roll-over. The SLS AMG's door hinges are in the roof, and yet they conform to the regulations by using explosive devices that "pop" the doors open, allowing access after a roll-over. Why couldn't Lamborghini use the same idea?

Fast forward to 2:30 to see the SLS's doors being tested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMNVVHI2ZNg

I think the shear numbers of the Ford GT will make it easier for it to lose value over the next few years. Diablo's run were fairly large as well but good examples are far and few between. I believe Ford GT's will be under 100k buying in the next few years easily. I don't follow the Lambo market but as more and more Murci's and Gallardo's flood the market the Marque Diablo name will get lost because the true exotic buyer is changing dramatically so I can see a drop in their value as well.

They are just making it so that people who arent midgets can get in and out. Especially since the sill height of the LP 700 is higher than the Murcialago.

I fit in all the L cars.

No reason to pull up the knees and sink down low in the seat.

I say, make em even more compact, non-user-friendly, and raw :D

I have both cars. A 99 SV and a 06 FGT. They are both great cars and it would be difficult to get rid of either one. The Diablo is so striking in its design. Real beauty there. An Art form if you will. Also it runs great. Has that raw feeling and sound that is missing in so many new cars today. The FGT is as well balanced as they come. Does everything
well and epitimizes what a Sport Car should be, IMO. Unique looks that turns a lot of heads and runs great!

Do you mean high mileage/abused Ford GTs, or do you mean any and all Ford GTs (even low mileage and well maintained ones)? If you mean any and all, I believe that you are really wrong.

Regarding the Diablo prices going up or down, it really depends on the model you are interested in

IMO a 6.0 VT is infinitely more desirable than a Ford GT.

The top Diablos to get (in no particular order):

    Diablo GT
Diablo GTR -Tough as there are only 3
Diablo SV - RWD, highly desirable
    Diablo SE 30- A Classic
Diablo SE 30 JOTA - Extremely hard to find
Diablo 6.0 - The last of the Diablos

I hope I am. I think they are the only Ford I would ever own. I have no clue of the production run #'s on either of the two cars and I also would have never guessed that they would be trading below 150k either.

Unfortunately for all cars it comes down to demand and although supply is low I believe demand is even lower on the cars. I'm not someone trying to talk the values down I'm just a realist. With so many really good cars in the 100k-200k range right now the buyer pool is way down.

The good or bad is too many of these are getting transformed into Heffner Twin Turbo'd cars and I do believe this will help the value of the NON Heffnerized cars down the road because collectors will want them first. I still think they will continue to lose value.

I have been looking at GT's for awhile now, I don't think they are going down but going up. I should have bought as another Poster noted when they were in the 130K range. A clean no stories car are definitely in the $150+ Range and not that easy to find.

It is the one car that IMHO will appreciate in the future.

Could you post a photo of the SV? That's one of my favorite Lamborghinis. They're just awesome.

I think if you're going to be driving the car a lot the Ford would be the better buy. I'm sure it's a much more easy car to drive around on a regular basis. But... I haven't driven either :(

Oh my goodness she's beautiful! That's the best color on the SV IMO. When I was in highschool I had to make some stupid poster thing with what I enjoyed on it. I was so in love with the '99 Diablo SV that I printed out a huge picture of one exactly like yours and put it in the middle of my poster.

That was like 8 years ago and I still love them. Thanks for sharing :)

    P.S. Is that the Titanium??
