Please add 1 to the SSR Fanatics for a total of 5 cars.
So, it was you that brought out the Saab group last year?? We did very nearly get squished between two in the first group last year (see Don's comments above) who were driving like they were at a track-day in a rented 458!! Well, maybe it wasn't you individually, but if you happen to know those morons, please tell them it's next weekend, not this one. Needless to say we had a less than pleasant experience on the drive.
i can't view the images in this thread for some reason...is there any other way i can see a map of the route?
The local club does not publish route maps for obvious reasons. The meeting point is Boardwalk, the route will be distributed at the start.
TRSCOTTY, Hello. I noticed your post. I assure you that we want this to be a very safe and fun drive. I apologize if anything untoward occurred in the past. Yes I am also a SAAB fan, but not currently a SAAB owner. R.S. Dallas, TX
Thanks, R.S. I was thinking back to the last few I've participated in and had to vent a little with Don. These are a lot of fun and for a very worthy cause. I like to go on "spirited" drives as much as the next guy, but let's all make sure we don't do anything to ruin for everyone. I have 3 cars and 8 people from East Texas joining the fray. 355 F1 GT3 Maserati QP
Hello all, I participated in last year's event and would love to participate again this year. My apologies for the late notice but I wasn't sure I'd be in town this weekend. Thanks in advance to all the organizers, sponsors and participants in what will most certainly be a fun and worthwhile event. See you all Saturday! -Wade Red 355 GTS
Ho Ho Ho, just don't shoot at the five point Mini or maybe I'd better be careful not to venture too close to some of those deer leases. See ya'll Saturday morning. Image Unavailable, Please Login
In the many years of doing this it hasn't been required. That way it's easier to distribute gifts to the kids that are in need.
I am going to need some help with the groups. Any volunteers?. When we did this with the RUF people, Hans was the official group selector and launcher and he was perfect. Anybody want to try and fill his shoes??????????????? Safe 4 Now steve is bringing 30 cars and that will divide into two groups of 15, so I believe that will be a good number for each group. Manageable through the lights and limited small town stuff. A bigger group will get to be a problem. So we will need a launch control person and an car group organizer. If I don't get any volunteers I will draft a couple on Saturday. At this point I have no idea on the number of cars but if everyone shows, then we are at about 125 vehicles. So if we launch every 5 minutes it will now take about 45 minutes for everyone just to leave Boardwalk Ferrari. So we will have to be very precise in timing, because this may throw us off a bit at the restaurant.
I would be glad to help in any way I can...let me know if you need me to do anything. I can be there extra early if need be...
Chris, thanks. Carolyn and I will be there about 8:00 to set up the FCA sign in table. If you could be there about 8:15 and we could talk for a couple of minutes that would be great.
Alex and I are available to help out with getting everyone going as well. We will show up a little after 8:00. Jeff Sole ICCSW goodwill ambassador and participant
I was out of town for a couple of days and had no internet access. So when I returned I had about 50 e-mails directly related to the Toy Run. After going through all of the correspondence I really believe we will approach 150 cars---assuming everyone shows that says they will. Therefore we will have to be very accurate and precise on the start time and launch control. The first group will go out at 9:30 sharp and then a group every 5 minutes until all are gone. Now one thing to remember, if you catch up to the group that was launched in front of your group, then you are going to have maybe 30 cars trying to go through areas that are really optimal for 15. In addition there is one stretch of the run that has 6 lights on it and two groups will probably not make the light timing (assuming that they are timed) and therefore it will ball up everything on that part of the run. PLUS 30 cars jammed up in a couple of these areas on the run is going to draw the attention of 'you know who' and then that fouls up some things. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE I want everyone to understand this: Probably 95% of all of the cars that are on this run are capable of 150MPH or more. Let us make sure that everyone knows and recognises this. Therefore, when we get on the run there is no reason to prove it! Making up the 5 minute window between groups will gain you ABSOLUTELY NOTHING but a big traffic jam and that aspect you may enjoy any day of the week on LBJ. For Instance on the FCA Strade Di Autunno we launched in 4 groups of 5 cars. I had run the route and I knew it took 1:45 to do the run. When people started to pull into the restaurant it was about 1:30 from the start, so I know there was a bit of speeding. But my point is that the groups stayed pretty much as launched and there was a gap between the groups and most important THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS! I do not want any problems on this run!!!!!! Again lets get a bunch of toys, make a lot of kids happy, have a fun and pleasant drive and lets have NO PROBLEMS.
Thanks Don and Carolyn for all the hours and effort you put into this great event. Sorry to miss this year, but taking 2 year old grandson to see Santa from 9-11am. One of those special events I don't want to miss. Have a safe and fun Toy Run , and Merry Christmas to all. Image Unavailable, Please Login
