Who has a wife that can't drive your car?

I always wondered how many people are married and have a spouse who can't drive the Ferrari. I said wife in the title, because I don't think I have ever noticed a women 308/328/mondial owner post here.

And if so, why did you marry this person? Did you get married first, then get the F-car. Is this grounds for divorce? Is seeing their wife drive the F-car a turn-on for anyone else?

I do know that with the heavy steering, heavy clutch, and forceful shifts needed to drive, it can require a robust women.

My wife actually bought the 308 for us, but I have to admit that she doesn't use it much for the following reasons: kids tranportation restrictions, fear of it getting scratched somewhere, current warm start issues. Most of the time she uses it, is with me.

 

My wife can't reach the pedals at 5' tall. She wants to drive it but I have yet to purchase pedal extenders (for a reason).

 

Mine doesn't because she can't drive a stick and she isn't going to learn on my 328. She really has no interest in driving, but riding along, she is just fine with.

 

funny, this has been a topic between us recently. i dont even have the car yet and she wants to drive it. my response is simple. "i bought you a range rover, its newer than the mondial, be happy" she can drive it once with me next to her. period.

 

I've been trying to get Mrs. Jedi to drive Sofia for some time... just doesn't have a
really big interest I guess.

My wife could, it's just that she could car eless about doing so :-o

 

Good luck with that. I am not saying that the Mondial t is a "Chick" car but with power steering, modern brakes, plenty of torque and a relatively light clutch it is a pleasure to drive. Throw in a full convertible and you might have to hide the keys.

Fortunately, my wife lets me drive hers now and then.

Edit: I should mention that my wife also has no problem driving her unsynchronised fiat 500, double-clutching like it's second nature. Some call the tranny a crash box, but it doesn't make a sound when she drives it.

mrs. jsa never learned to drive a manual. Even if she did know how to drive an ordinary compact with a manual, the Ferrari's heavy steering and clutch effort and timing shifts right would be too much for her.

 

My wife would like to learn to drive stick with my 308 but she doesn't approve of my rule:

Down under in Ozstralia we have two lovely lady fChatters..........Kerrari who owns a 308 GTS and Janne328 who owns a 328 and 575....both lady's definetly know how to drive manuals too(You americans call them stick-shifts!)

And both are regularily on this site and posting!!!

We have a few different classics with manual shift and she can drive them but since I have this thing for black she is waiting until we get a "resale red" addition to our stable------------------------- Now I ask, is she an enabler? thankfully, yes! Lost

 

My wife has driven my car on rare occasions. She's not a big fan of the heavy steering or the clutch.

 

A condition of my classic car insurance is you must have been licensed for 10 years. She just got her's this year.
Not that I'm complaining she doesn't drive stick and I just got the clutch redone

 

My wife's driving record is so bad that the classic car insurance folks made her sign an agreement that she would never drive any of my insured classics, or they wouldn't give me the policy.

She doesn't seem to mind though, as while I'm sure she could drive the 308 (or any of the other cars) without a problem, she is scared of it and really doesn't want to drive it anyway.

My wife cannot drive a manual. She has however, managed to pull it off once or twice with coaching from me in the passenger seat. The first few times were in my old E30 BMW, and only once in the Ferrari - as my Christmas Present last year. She told me the other day that she wants to do the same for me this year.

I have video of last years - and if I knew how to post it somewhere I think most of you would be laughing. Its very cute!

I've offered to let my wife drive, she has no interest in the car. She'd rather drive her Eos, or my manual trans Ford Ranger. Anything but the F-car. But my last fun car scared the daylights out of her. When I was getting rid of my 62 Fairlane with hot rod engine and manual she had to take it to the car hauler about a mile from my house. I wasn't home. It also had manual steering and it had piles of torque. She couldn't get the old bench seat to adjuster so sat at the edge of the seat. When she hit the manual brakes she slid back in the seat and almost ran into a fence in our yard. I think that experience is making her stay away from any car I enjoy driving. She is on the short side too, haven't even had her in the drivers seat to see if she can reach the pedals.

 

When my wife and I were first dating, she helped me change the clutch in a 928 and I knew right there I had a good one. Ten years later and she's still awesome. But ten years later she still can't drive a clutch and no way will she be learning on the 308. She enjoys the car thing (or at least hanging out with me doing the car thing) and likes going for drives with me. Works great for us.

Driven it rarely and consequently quite intimidated by it - but actually manages fine. Doesn't like driving it in urban traffic but quite happy on the motorway. Likes it better after I put the steering wheel spacer on it. She's a good driver & mechanically sympathetic.

I got divorced, then the 308 found me.
The girlfriend at 5' tried to reach the pedals, but couldn't. She also sits a bit low. She did manange to try for about .25mile on a straight run. She loves to drive stick.
Now my wife, and my Mazda DD is always being borrowed.

I forgot to mention that my 5'4" wife sits on top of a pillow to drive the 308. She can reach the pedals fine, but without the pillow its hard to get a good view over the dash. At least, that's what she is comfortable with.
