I apologize in advance if this post is the wrong section; I think that people who visit the Vintage section of F-Chat would know the most about things such as the Pur Sang factory.

If anyone has any first-hand experience with Pur Sang out of Argentina, I would love to hear about it. If it's more appropriate, please send me a PM or an e-mail.

The work they do looks wonderful. I am, I'll admit, a bit skittish about sending money to a foreign land for a work in progress that takes a years time. If anyone can give me some more confidince in going ahead, again, I'd love to hear it.

I'd appreciate anything you have to say.

    Thanks in advance,

    Matt

I moved the thread to its proper place but left a permanent redirect so the vintage Ferrari guys will know where to find it.

the experience i've had with "as delivered" pursang bugs is not too great...they need a lot of work to sort out...this usually involves bits from well known euro suppliers and help from specialists.much time, pain and $$$$.

while it sounds good in theory a better bet is to look at cars from ivan dutton or another uk bug specialist....better yet contact tim dutton at ivan dutton or jim stranberg at high mountain classics in colorado ..they often know of sorted replica or bitsa cars on the market...

stay away from competition motors-bad mojo there.

    Thank you for the post.

I was under the impresssion that Pur Sang made almost everything in house. Is that not the case? What parts come from well known euro suppliers? Could you please elaborate fom your experience?

    Thanks in advance,

    Matt

i guess it's my grammar...the pur sang guys do make pretty much all their own stuff... too bad not all of it is built to an acceptable manufacturing standard...the euro bits often have to be brought in by the owner [ sometimes it seems pur sang makes up it's own dimensions ]...often much work is needed to install a non-pursang part - one that's actually made to factory prints...brinniton engineering and crosswaithe and gardiner parts will actually bolt to original cars with no fettling at all...most of the well known subcontractors stuff will bolt on as well- [bugatti club spares program is also a great source as well]...as i said, dutton will build a new car up for you, it will be more expensive initally but in the long run it will be cheaper than a purs ang and you can drive it in the meantime!!

actually i can make you a great deal on a t35 right now....or you can go for it at this year's monterey auction....

You might get in touch with the factory and ask if they will be at the Monterey Pennisula next month exhbiting. Last year, they set up next to me in a booth at Retro Auto at the Concouse D'Elegance at Pebble Beach and brought a replica Indian motorcycle to the event that was simply stunning. Jay Leno and his entourage spent an extended period at their booth examining the cycle and it was bewildering how they could manufacture a replica to look so convincingly. For example, the spark plug wires were cloth and they looked no less than 75 years old, yet were brand new pieces.

Anyhow, meeting the staff from Pur Sang if they are in California next month and inspecting their quality firsthand might be the best way to feel comfortable about the company and your investment.

    Regards,

    Chad

I am sure that Dave has way more Bugatti authority than I do - but darn!

Believe it or not, I once seriously considered getting a Pur Sang - actually called the seller and tried to deal on it.

They did not want to take a trade, so it fell through. It was the actual car featured in the reproduction article in R & T, the one Phil Hill drove.

I was really dissappointed to hear that these may not be the perfect reincarnation of a 35 that I was hoping for.

I just came across this and wanted to add my two cents. I am no stranger to vintage racing and have had first hand experience with Pur Sang, Argentina. I can attest to the fact that it is a fantastic operation on all fronts. I know their product well and would strongly recommend them to anyone interested in a repro Bugatti. I spent several weeks in Argentina in their factory and am hugely impressed by the quality of the work they do. Pattern-making, foundary work, body construction, etc is all done in house by 100+ full time workers.

In terms of concerns over sending money to a foreign country, I wouldn't worry. Transactions with U.S. customers take place with U.S. bank accounts and all business affairs are very professional. If anyone is seriously considering buying a repro Bugatti, I would be happy to offer further input about doing business with Pur Sang based on my experience.

Pur Sang has built over 150 Bugattis in the last ten years...I'm not aware of anyone else with a similar record.

Thank you John, for your post on my (not very popular) thread.

Is there some central group where those 150 Pur Sang customers cluster around in order to talk about their cars, or parts for their cars, or other support?

I'm very interested in one, but I worry about getting it serviced.

    Thanks again for your post!

To answer your question, I could find out where the other Pur Sang Bugatti owners are in your area. Spare parts are readily available and I can provide the contact info in the States for the same if you like. All the people I know who have Pur Sang Bugattis are very happy with them.

Why not look into used ones, at least they are complete & ready to use? I see them in classifieds under pre-war cars, classiccarsUk & Bugatti pages.

To anyone interested in buying a Pur Sang Bugatti, I have the following input. Pur Sang cars hold their value well. That is, there is not much difference in cost between a new car from the factory and a used one. Buying a used car carries the disadvantage of inheriting whatever problems the former owner may have created. Also, a used car will have been made to the preferences of the original owner rather than your own. Pur Sang builds all their cars to order according to each customer's tastes. A new car will cost the same, be exactly what YOU want and will be factory guaranteed. A U.S. contact for more factory-direct info: 949.294.5719.

    Thank you, Simon.

For anyone interested, that Pur Sang is in Italy and is asking £165,000, which to me is extremely high.
