I drive about 120 miles a week usually to the park and ride near my house. I was considering a pre-owned Quatroporte 2006 or 2007. How is the reliability and how are the cost of parts for these cars. I never bring cars to the dealer or mechanic, I usually just do the work myself.

Should anything go south in the engine or transmission department (others as well, but these are the main biggies), you will almost have to take the care in to have the dealer computer hooked up to review the issue. Same goes for modern Ferrari's. You will not be able to properly diagnose the issue without the dealer computer which is very much a lifeline for these cars.

As for reliability is concerned, I have heard they run like a top and have heard of no issues to date especially with the later automatic transmission models.

The later autos are probably a good bet, at least one doesnt need to worry about the clutch!

Picking up a 07 QP Executive GT. Everything I have heard and read has stellar reviews with the exception of the 2004-2006 ZF Tranny. Heard it was rather clunky.

    Good luck.

I believe the ZF is bullet proof. It's the Duo Select F1 tranny that has a bad rap for eating clutches. With the 2007 Auto, you should be in good shape. And 6000 miles/year shouldn't be super expensive to maintain, especially DIY.

Do your homework and research pricing - should be able to find a good car at a great price. The resale value on QPs has been sinking lower than Lindsay Lohan's chest.

Yes I was incorrect on the tranny's it is the ZF one that is best. The ZF came on board in I think around mid 2006. The 07 QP that I drive has been a blast no problems at all. I am very pleased with the fit, finish, ride and power of the car. From what it cost new to what i paid for it (certified to 100K) it is a lot of car for the money. Could not be happier.

The QPs are very reliable. Even early MY cars. In mid-2007, they introduced the ZF auto transmission. That will have lower maintenance costs.

Few things break, but when they do, parts can be expensive.
