that gas cap model is the same used on Jarama GTS.
you are correct #8950 is the 20th S3, and it was included in the first order sequence S3 from Modena Car N-Y with #8954, #8956, #8952, #8926 and #8916.

 

Hi Gary,

My car is a bit earlier than yours and it came with a set of European style belts that I find very confusing to use but I guess they're appropriate. I don't know if they were factory, dealer or customer installed but certainly the mounting points are factory. I don't remember the brand but I also don't recommend them.

If you want easy to use I think I'd go with some that utilized the stalk type mount along the center console but that's not what would have been used at the time. I say make them as inconspicuous as possible.

There's no take-up reel on the pillar mount though you could probably mount one of those but they just awful IMHO. So you're left with the belt flopping about when not in use.

Will Canada let you go with none?

Bob that listing looks almostwhat i have now except for the logo on the lach as mine has nothing.I am no further ahead then by getting these so maybe i will just change the fabric .
I was thinking there was a factory spec belt for euro cars...

Ok, another lesson learned.
I learned I can actually see the car drive.
I learned the car seems to have had 2 different interiors....one silver, one chrome/aluminum foil.
I learned another use of garage door springs.
I learned you look kind of doochey driving it.

so heres the tally not including the leather to get correct espada seat perforations

$182 Can Ship to italy 2 skins they wanted remember 9 kilos!!
200 euros to get it out of Italian customs into Valentinos hands
1100 euros for the perforations and trimming ( which means local guy wont have to remeasure
190C$ to send back
Another 190 C to clear canada customs and brokerage ( remember its My F--N leather !!!)

So grand total approx $2400.00 can $$.

If I stop driving it long enough to show it I better win a frikin gold star for my efforts..

That's pretty insane to me. How do they determine the customs duties? Maybe there's a better approach? Buy the leather in Italy and pay the shipping & duties only once? The shipping is a killer too. So can your local upholstery guy almost just fit the product to the seats or is there still going to be a lot of measuring, cutting fitting and sewing? Keep us posted and thanks for sharing.

Also, I have to redo at least one rear seat cushion on mine and what I've noticed is that the foam portion is a formed-in-a-mold piece made by Pirelli I think. Most of the shape is in the foam. Has your upholstery guy given you any idea how he's going to to rebuild these?

But more importantly, how did it turn out Gary?

i thought about doing the whole job either in italy or even california( Bobileffs) but that idea soon fizzled because most importantly you would then pay your money remotely and end up getting what you get .As you well know nothing fits exactly in these cars and then if its even a bit wrong you have to negotiate yor corrections!!!!!!! so with that i opted for a local guy whos well respected here. Having said that i got more from Valentino (and Bruno) that i thought i would. They didnt just poke holes in random swatches . Now all four seat fronts are precut and measured as one peice or 8 peices in total and we just have to sew in the rolls which are clearly marked and pleated. he has given me 2 options for the back of the front seats . 2 precut and sized peices with round hols in the familiar pattern and also 2 with the star thingy shape. According to Valentino ( and he should know) espadas left the factory with the back of the front seats finished 3 different ways. round holes, squares on the side (looks like a star) and no holes!

Overall i am pleased with the result and the pain in the ass is really about getting it there and back . Until someone on this side of the pond does it this will be the norm for anyone wanting to get it right.

One more thing Valentino insisted that a bank wire was the way to go while i insisted it was not. I was hoping i could have used Visa or paypal something quick ( he won that argument) as i have had nothing but bad experiences with euro banks ( they dont operate or think like NA banks ) efficiency is NOT the norm. they finished the holes in 48 hours but the bank crap took 3 WEEEEKS! So for any of you wishing to do this insist on an international euro money order drawn on an major italian bank . next thing to remember as i did not is to talk to a customs broker first to ensure you dont get dinged on stuff YOU own both on the way out and the way back in . I thought the word "sample" may help but not much > it did however avoid me my own taxes on the way back in ....

 

My first job out of college was for a steamship agency in the early 1970s and then my last was for a freight forwarder in the Newark area. I think if I were to do this I'd run it by a few folks I know and get their ideas on how to minimize this. But maybe you did as good as one can?

I'm not ready as yet but I have spoken with a couple of upholsterers locally and they do a similar thing for old Mercedes restorations. I think we just need the die and a machine for the seat faces.
Or just a pair of sheep skins ...

So #90014 was "verde carabo/senape" sold new in France to VPM on 26th March 1973, 1st owner Mr. jovignot who took delivery on 17th April 1973. Not bad in white, I'm wondering how is its general shape...

I've spoken to owner today and he has it since 1983 with 60.000 km, almost everything has been rebuilt or regularly serviced, exception of the leather trim still original. He bought it to Edmond Ciclet who got it from 1st owner Mr. Jovignot. Accident free. Why did he resprayed it in white ? just because he get bored of "Carabo verde" and wanted "Lamborghini bianco", factory PPG reference for Countach. 90.000 km is original mileage or a yearly average of 1.111 km, not abused at all. Reason of sale, he gets too old and this is his last car for sale, no trading, no offer, a straight 42.800 €. I will look at it by next 2nd january.
