For the love of all that is holy and to stop Enzo Ferrari [not "Enzo F-Car"] from spinning in his grave: Just as a BMW is not a "B-Car", nor a Mercedes an "M-Car", or Volvo a "V-Car", let alone Porsche a "P-Car" or Lamborghini an "L-Car", Ferrari is not an "F-Car". Ah! But you are wrong!! F car is not short for Ferrari. It's short for "F'n all right car" or "fan f@kntastic car" So to avoid being banned, we just say " F car". And if you don't believe me, go ask Enzo himself.
Wax, Usually you contribute quite intelligently, but this time you've got it all wrong. BMW's are Bimmers, and they are also the makers of the M-car, not Mercedes. Porsche indeed makes the pee-car. V stands for Velocitas, and Volvo makes some rather quick cars these days, so you're wrong there too. I do, however, agree with you that the -car suffix after the F is superfluous: Ferrari doesn't build airplanes or boats (although there was a collaboration with Riva in the eighties), making it quite clear for the intimi what the topic of conversation is, without blatantly boasting to those driving lesser bred cars.
this is the only place i see a Ferrari refered to as "F-car", seems only to be just an abbreviated extention of the "F-chat" so oft used here
One of my first topics on this board questioned why almost everybody wrote "F-chat" when typing "FerrariChat" takes just about 0,3 seconds more. OK, I can live with F-chat. But F-car... No, no, no. I can live with M-car, though, in a BMW related topic. Otherwise; No, no, no.
I have to agree. I never really understood the fascination beyond the minuscule amount of time it saves.
F-car can mean Ferrari It can also mean ****ing car Mostly it's just a way of avoiding saying Ferrari in mixed company. One wouldn't want to sound pretentious... Wonder if Roll-Royce owners call it a R-car, or do they stick with Roller?
Isn't a Boxer an F102? And which Ferrari is then the F104? Oh, and we have the M16...this is getting very confusing. Maybe, just maybe Wax has a point.
well it does have a cavallino rampante painted on its tail, the starfighter was built by lockheed the avanti might be more fitting, as the piaggio company is run by enzo's own kin ...but i'll refrain from calling it a "F-plane" LOL Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I thought it was "proper" to refer to a Rolls-Royce as "a Royce" rather than "a Rolls". It's not a big deal, and I certainly won't say "You're wrong for saying it one way", but I thought I'd seen something discussed on FerrariChat about the traditional abbreviated use for Rolls-Royce. Can anyone confirm this?
My parents visited Europe for the first time last year which included a trip to Monaco. Mom kept referring to some cars as Martins. I corrected her and said "you mean Aston Martin". "In Monaco, they call them Martins!". "Mom you are from South Carolina, it's Aston Martin to you."
When I'm in public and I'm talking to my friends or girlfriend about the Ferrari, we refer to it as "The F". I dont like saying Ferrari this, Ferrari that all the time. Draws too much (negative) attention and everyone thinks you're bragging.
