Rolex Daytona - I am interested in re-sale of the watch, how much do papers matter and what kind of discount does one apply for a watch without papers. Late production SS Daytona.

    Thanks,

What you should ask is "how much more is a pre-owned watch worth with full AD pkg, incl papers?"

Most serious collectors would like to see a complete package including the COSC certs, invoice, service records, pamphlets, orig. boxes, etc. They will often pay a premium for this package. How much depends on the watch and its rarity.

Truth is, most people that re sell their watches rarely have that stuff in total. Rolex watches are bought and sold all day long without full papers and still command their full resale value, whatever that is. The same is true for many other watches. The older the watch the more valuable the papers are, but only to collectors. A Daytona will bring very close to its true street value, regardless of whether it has the papers included. They would be a bonus but there will not be a big discount because the papers are not present. A retailer or dealer might try to buy it from you cheaper using that as an excuse. If it is a very rare Daytona, perhaps papers would mean more. The box is another story. Many brand type boxes are rare as hens teeth and can be valuable.
But honestly you can buy most Rolex boxes and other misc Rolex pamphlets, tags, anchors, etc. all day long if that package is important to you.

Whats most important is that whether you have papers or not, try to have the watch authenticated before buying or selling.
    Cheers
    Randy

    Hope that helps.
