i wish on both these cars both belong to friends the garage ,mini, and benz are mine..although just replaced silver one with an amg package glk last week.i actually like the older ferraris(50's-70's) more than newer ones ...but that's just me
I live very remotely in the southern sierra mountains with only dirt road access to my house. There is no way I would ever drive any of my cars on my dirt road. Therefore, I have a 10,000 sq. ft. hangar at KBFL that I use as my garage. It is outfitted with everything except a lift. (In the works). I don't know if it counts as a garage or not, but, its my garage. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks guys. Actually it has three fridges full of beer and sodas. A lounge with a big screen and a bar full of booze. A freezer full of salmon and halibut from Sitka, AK. Dorado, Marlin, and Albacore from Puerto Vallarta. A microwave for pizza and a kick ass BBQ. My wife just might draw the line though at a stripper pole. If any of you are ever in the neighborhood stop by Hangar 17 at KBFL, (Bakersfield,CA.), and eat and drink until your heart is content. We can also open the door and criticize everyones landings. Finally! I have made it through this entire thread, it took multiple days and initially I started going through it some weeks ago, but WOW! There are some beautiful collections and garages out there! Two that especially have stood out to me are Jas (RufMD) and Kuzi's. Beautiful garages! All I have are ideas in my head now for what I'd like in my future garage(s). Lots of inspiration in here!
She is a 1986 Cessna Citation SII. I have been flying her since 1998. I originally flew her for ENRON. I don't think I need to tell you what happened at Enron. I was one of 4 pilots for Enron based in Tehachapi, CA. (KTSP). We flew Enron's Wind Energy execs. around. KTSP is a small mountain airport. Elevation 4000', Runway length 4000', and is surrounded by mountains reaching 7000'. In the end I was the last man standing. I flew her to Houston for the Bankruptcy. I delivered her to the people that bought her out of the bankruptcy and they asked if I would continue to fly her for them. She requires two pilots though I fly her single pilot with a waiver. She is not the fastest plane in the sky,(410kts TAS, 43000FT ceiling), but I can put her down and take her off from most places a cessna 172 would operate. I operated her out of Santa Ynez, CA. (KIZA) for awhile with a 2800' runway. She is a wonderful ship.
Very cool . Thanks for sharing . I have 21 hours on R22 helicopter . Great way to make a living . We may need a pic of a cool aviation type watch in the watch thread . Oh strange question : is the airport on Catalina really that dangerous ? I have heard of a pilot , powering down thinking he is running out of strip , going over the "hump" powering back up , then running out of strip and falling off the end of the runway . sdr
I love the R22. I have around 660 hours in them. I flew helicopters exclusively for around ten years. Most of my time are in MD500's and AS350's. I also flew a goose (Agusta) 109 and S58TT for awhile. I was an LA County Sheriff's Deputy for 15 years and flew as an observer in our Aero Bureau. Catalina Island was our jurisdiction so I flew in there many, many times. There is the infamous "Hump" at the mid-point of the runway. The hump makes it appear that you are running out of runway because you cannot see the remaining runway behind it. This illusion causes pilots to brake excessively because they think they are running out of runway. Many tires have been blown before the hump due to this. When you go there, look at all the skid marks just before the hump. What causes the most accidents there is coming in high and hot. As you approach runway 22, the VASI makes it appear as though you will hit the cliff. So guys add power which puts them higher on the glide path. Then, as they cross high over the threshold, they dive for the runway. Thus increasing their approach speed. The higher speed causes them to float farther down the runway. The runway is only 3000 feet long. They land just before the hump, still fast with the flaps down, and light on the gear, then are launched back into the air as they cross over the top of the hump. If they are braking hard, the wheels start to skid a soon as the plane starts to get light at the top of the hump. (It does not help that the runway is rough and full of potholes. Avalon is a privately owned airport.) The trick is to ignore the cliff, ignore the hump, and just make a normal landing. Then go to the restaurant and get a Buffalo Burger. I was there and did witness the Lear out of KSBA that ran off the end of the runway killing all on board in the mid 80's.
From Cape Town, the place is called 'Future Exotics.' They've had some pretty serious machines. If I'm not mistake, this was the first Trevita sold. _J
I hear that neither of them have sold. They were asking stupid money for them, added to the fact that in SA you cannot buy and drive left hand drive cars (noted the Pagani is a right hooker, believe the Koen^%$&#&sig is a left hooker), only existing left hand drive cars before 2000 (i think) can be registered for road use. We have 3 Enzo's and 2 carrera GTs, both just for show and track days, although i have never seen either at track days. Next time you are in Cape Town, take a drive to Fransschoek and go see the Rupert collection. Enzo, F50 which his son crashed, now repaired, 288 GTO, 2 275s, a 250 SWB and 2 Nembos. He has many more cars including a GP winning type 35b which is simply outstanding.
