I've driven the 612 w. F1 transmission, but not the 6-speed manual. With the amazing propensity for low-mileage clutch replacements for the F1 trans. in both Ferraris and Maseratis, I am going to buy a 6-speed manual car. I like the low production numbers and cannot imagine I'll be disappointed. Anyone driven both and decided on the manual?

Can,t really say much here, did not know they made this car in a 6 speed. Wonder how many were made?

    Best regards,

I have put a lot of miles on both. The six speed is unique - but I believe the masses would far prefer a F1 in that platform. I personally like to shift it manually though.

At the time I was documenting the 612 that I had added some personal touches to 2242 had been produced since 2004. That was a few years ago.

I recently acquired a 2006 nero daytona/cuoio 6-spd and love it. The box is very smooth, although I am more experienced with the older 12s so may not be a good reference. Since I expect to keep it many years, a consideration for me was the maintenance prospects for the F1 in the outyears. The relative rarity of the 6-spd in the 612 is another factor to consider as a possible plus.

    Best regards,

I have driven them both and bought an F1. The clutch is a bit more on the F1 however it seems to fit the cars better. You will not go wrong with either choice. Do not place any increased value on the car if you buy a 6-speed. Most will discount it as the F1 was an $8K option and most buyers want an F1 regardless of year.

    Again--you will love either one.

I agree with Ricky. I also think the concern about clutches is way overblown, especially on the later cars.

Although I agree the 6-speed doesn't add value, I also believe it doesn't subtract. So few of these cars were made with 6-speeds that demand will probably remain relatively strong in the market.

The gearbox and manual shifter are essentially the same as the 575M and Superamerica and their owners have been very happy with them. Odds are huge that you will be, too. No worries about it being a low production item since it was carried over from the 575s, and those were nearly identical to the 550s, of which ~7000 were built.

When the OTO came along and adopted the 599 dual plate clutch and a version of the 599 gearbox case, the manual shifter was no longer available, even on special order.

I've had my 6-speed for three years and have no plans to sell. My favorite car!

Morgie's 612 is great--would have bought but he would not sell...Wish you would post pics--one of the best spec 612s out there.
