I slid on ice while making a turn in my neighborhood. The rear slid out and I curbed my passenger side REAR wheel. The car is all wheel drive (4matic). Now, whenever I am going slow and turn the wheel sharply, there is a low, deep grading or grinding sound.

I can't tell where it is coming from. It is especially noticeable when I am in a parking lot and turning slowly and sharply into a parking space.

So the sharper the turn and the slower I am going, the worse it is. However, as time goes by, it has been getting louder and initiated with less travel of the steering wheel.

The dealership is swamped and can't pick it up until the 6th. Any ideas what they might find?

Educated guess -- RR wheel bearing/hub assembly. The curb impact probably damaged it.

It will be a easy fix if so.

How hard did you smack it? Try swapping rear wheels to see if you bent the rim but my guess is something more significant like a control arm. Should be easy to spot with a little inspection work. Jack it up and spin the wheels by hand.

hard to tell without location of the sound.

is it coming from front or rear?

if front, could be the front differential or tie rods. is the steering wheel getting harder to turn? if so it's the tie rods. sounds like a differential though since the grinding noise is louder when the wheel is turned sharply.

    definitely have it checked.

But not cheap. Did you report the accident to your insurance company? Unless you have a very creative dealer on your side, it is unlikely that it will be covered under warranty (they don't warrant for damage due to an accident, like hitting a curb). Depending on the cost to you, you might want to call your insurance company, especially if you have "accident forgiveness" on your policy. And when they ask why you waited so long to report it, you can play dumb and say that you thought it would be covered under warranty.

I had an MB ML350, AWD, a few years back. The front differential and a couple of the universals went on the car. Had they not been covered under warranty, it would have cost a small fortune to have the work done. Fortunately, the dealer took care of it under warranty, "no questions asked." You might want to limit what you tell them when you drop it off. Don't lie, but less information may be more.

I'm pretty sure they will notice a curbmark on the wheel that was hit if it damaged the bearing. Plus its a 2010, not like they have a lot those coming in with bearings bad yet so it will get a closer eye than a 2007-8 model. I'm guessing it's 1000 fix, 500 for part and 500 labor.
The differential problem above is a much more expensive part and also much more labor intensive.

If you have found a good independent yet let them do it, its an easy job and they can probably save you money.

Btw, If I'm hearing your description right the reason the noise comes an goes on turns is because the bearing has 2 side races that hold the bearings(balls) On a left turn the weight is distributed on one side and on a right turn the other. So the noise can come and go by turning. Also its only going to get noiser as the bearings are not rolling like they should so they are basically metal to metal now.

If you have a S-class this could be what you need.
