    While getting ready to reinstall the smog system (79 GTB) I noticed that on the Electrovalve by the EGR valve that one of the nipples was broken off by the PO...looks like its the nipple that goes to the vacuum source (#1 in the below diagram from a prior post by Steve M.). Also I am missing the other electrovalve that controls the Air Cleaner Flap and the actual actuator on the air cleaner. Having brought the car in to California from AZ I am pretty sure the smog guys are gonna want to see these.... I didn't see any reference to an successful alternate part to replace these...I thought I read somewhere that most of the smog equipment was GM parts.. I tried an online search and came up with some universal Electrovalves like this one http://hires.amazonwebstore.com/EGR-MISC./M/B000VAZ8L0.htm.. not sure if it would work though as I can't tell if there is a third port to the atmosphere.

    Has anybody had any luck finding the alternate parts or Does anybody have some they want to get rid of?

    fwiw, I have a 78 and live in Cali, have taken the car to 3 different smog shops and no one looked for those pieced, let alone checked air pump, charcoal cannister, or even cats. They just peeked under the hood and ran the test.

    You shouldnt need those pieces to pass emissions either assuming your car is runnnig clean. i have both electrovalves, the airflap i have hooked up and the other I have disabled, and I easily passed smog that way.

    Also, I recall seeing one of these little suckers going for about $400 on fleabay the other day...expensives bits and pieces for sure. Also, finding the diverter valve was an issue for me, let me know if you need help with that.

    I would lean it out, put some cats on and see if you can get by the man!

    Thanks Geno...It may come to that..Since it will be this cars first visit to smog in a long time I just wanted to have my ducks in a row...you never know what mood the guy doing the check is in... BTW the hills of Marin must be a beautiful green about now..I used to live in Larkspur and worked in the city...I really miss the visuals of the drive over the bridge to and from every day.

    Mark, there are several alternative sources for these valves. All depends what kind of electrical connector you need. The older model cars tend to use 2-prong connectors (see picture attached). Let me know, which one do you need exactly and I maybe able to help you to find one... The one shown in the picture is way chaper than prices quoted in the message by Sledge4.2.

    That previous post that Steve M responded to was probably mine.

    The eBay part looks like the right one for my car at least, an '87 Mondial.

    I got my replacement part from Algar, they were trying to get rid of them. It may be worth calling them. I think it was $78 or something. Another option would be to call your local Ferrari dealer, since I believe their stock system can check parts availability at all other dealers, although you may have to ask them to do that.

    There has got to be a different source for the parts. I took notes of the model numbers on the one that I removed as well as the one I installed. It clearly says "Made in the USA" but it doesn't have a manufacturer or any other identification other than a number if I recall correctly.

    Thanks Guys for the heads up!

    I went ahead and bought the ebay one...it was the one I am looking for. May try and do with out the one for the air cleaner flap since I don't have the actuator anyway. Looks like the Pierburg ones for the 80's Mercedes are real close too ( like the one in Juri's post above)..except for the round terminals.

    FYI, there are similar ones as I posted but with the flat prongs. If only would you indicate specifically which one you need... The one on eBay you purchased looks used to me, although description indicates that it works OK...

    See below for the parts diagram and Ferrari # of the one I was after, there is an identical one on the other side of the engine that connects to the actuator that closes the air filter flap on shut down. Your right the ebay one is a used one but at $20 plus shipping it was hard to pass up (Thanks again Michael). I found another used factory one but at $80.

    So Juri, tell me about the one you mentioned with flat terminals..The cheapest I have seen a Pierburg valve was $46. I wish I could say price doesn't matter but truth is ...it does.

    By the way, this air injection/vacuum solenoid valve is used on F40, 308, 348, 412, MONDIAL T, TESTAROSSA, and 512TR - US versions (that is why it is in my personal catalogue of parts, which includes more than a 1000 hard to find items for Testarossa...). That one I found was for $42.94- for 79 Mercedes 280CE, but with 2 round prongs: http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/1997/mercedes/e320/body_mechanical_-ar-_trim/vacuum_change_over_valve.html
    It may very well be that the valve shown with round progns may be only a representative picture of the whole series, as often is the case with those online distributors (they dont bother showing individual sub-model pictures)... Thus, the older (1979) model of this valve coule be with 2 flat prongs... Call them to find out.

    Nevertheless, if it has round prongs, one could make an adapter for the Ferrari 2-prong flat connector ising a Molex-type 2-way round hollow (tube-like) contacts for the Mercedes valve (shown in the picture I posted) or the BMW valve with square lock-on type of connector. If you need help send me a PM and I will gladly help you out with this small project.

    The Mercedes one is the one I came across too. In my former life I was a BMW parts manager and now I do recall the BMW version. We always had a connector kit behind the back counter for repairing harnesses which was not usually offered to the public ... the two prong snap on connectors were used several places. I also have some round female connectors left over from a British project, not sure if the Germans and Brits used a common size but worth a try.

    Thanks again, your catalog sounds like a valuable reference as so many of these parts start to disappear and the prices of what is out there get stupidly high. Again having been a parts manager it's really hard to pay retail.

    Could you please post a picture of the female connector for that flat 2-pong male contacts on the vacuum switch. I would like to make an adaper (Mercedes round 2-prongs to Ferrari flat 2 prongs).
    I want to make sure that it is the same as on my Testarossa.
