Looks like a good project if someone can do the work themselves...$10k asking - pay $6500 and have fun restoring it. Erik
ya know, if the seller said not to lowball him , why would you assume you can get the car for $6500. its crap like this with my Dino that blows my mind. Dont buy the damn car if yo dont want to pay the price. Some of us have the money not to give a **** if it sells, rotts or burns to the ground. Leave the guy alone if you are not serious. He seems super honest, and thats a great price for a USA spec carb car. I already called T-Rutlands once on what my 208 is worth chopped up. There is getting a car for a low price, and there there is "bottom feeding".
Would you have the same opinion if he wanted $65,000? Why should I give him more than it's worth (in my mind)? Who assigned the value at what he said it was worth? Has nothing to do with how much money you have - be honest - anyone who owns/owned a Ferrari wouldn't go broke over $3,000 (the difference I stated I would offer). Either way, in your mind you would rather see the car rot away than sell it for a resonable price and have someone fix it - that makes complete sense. I have zero interest in the car - I was just stating that if you got it for $6,500 - it would be reasonable to fix and drive it. Erik
I have not adopted the same mentality with a ferrari. But when i was selling something smaller like a camera or a fancy lens, I have always had a bottom value to me. If offered a value below that number, my response is "I would throw it over the golden gate bridge before I sell it for that price, and I would really mean that." I gave my camera away to my daughter. And I still have a Porsche car cover collecting dust in the garage because I was not going to give the guy the satisfaction of low balling me.
That GT4 is close enough to me to be tempting to look at for a cheaper 88 Mondi Vert at $2500 see http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1988-Ferrari-Mondial-Cabriolet-Body-Shell-Tub-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem563f5fa174QQitemZ370430419316QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories Of course is only shell but seller has all the rest of the parts on fleabay Looks like he took an intact car and parted
my point is a general statement that when sellers say not to lowball them, that doing just that is just counter productive. He wants $10k, and said not to lowball him. That was my point, he is unlikely to take $6500 for it, as i would not either. The car can be chopped up and parted out for more. I have chopped up DOZENS of muscle cars for the sum of thier parts. My first Ferrari was $9500.00, that i bought from someone here after it ran up over some curbs. 6 Ferrari's later, and I have been there and done that with these cars. I know your statement was a general one, and i understand that you do not want the car, but it struck a nerve with me. sorry for my rant. I have 3 cars on ebay right now, with "no trades" and the auto reject set up for the stupid low ball offers. Yet i keep getting lowball email pleas on all 3 cars. Its like people have no manners, and do not read all the text in ads anymore. I am so looking forward to all these cars being gone. Guns and guitars are more fun.
yup Mike...that's become painfully obvious to all of us...try not to let your inability to sell your GT4 ruin your holidays. happy new year !
I hear ya on lowballs. Everyone lists a car for sale with a little padding in the price so they can take a lower offer and make the buyer feel good. But there is a difference between taking $18 when you are asking $20, and offers of $10 when you are asking $20! It gets annoying. But of course the longer the car goes unsold, the lower a motivated seller will go. I'm much more open to "lowballs" within reason for my Mondial right now than I will be in spring, so I guess season is a factor with cars too. After all the snow we just got, I'm not sure I could get mine out of storage now! Might have to wait until spring no matter what.
Looks like someone got a super rare Ferrari for a great price. In this case I was pulling for the underdog (the seller). 1989 Ferrari Mondial T Coupe 1 of 43 US Spec - NO RESERVE (sold for $25k) Image Unavailable, Please Login
I am with you. The buyer came out well. But at 80,000 miles on this car the market can only be so strong. At least with this one you have no need to be afraid to drive it! 100k miles here we come! I hope the buyer enjoys it for double those miles.
True. But it is a good way to get into a Ferrari if you don't have all the cash and don't want to finance. Also a way to work on it yourself. Looks like a good opportunity.
I have tried that several times, it's just a bad idea....PM me if you want details...or ask Rifeldriver First you try to drive your dream car and you be come discouraged riding back too many times in a tow truck and beat your self up for buying the car while it sits on jack stands in your garage waiting till you can afford the parts. Second, and I have intimate knowledge as is I have bought several projects and one of two things happen, the first is you are aggressive and get it put back together and you end up paying a bunch more than a really good one, or it sits in the garage taking up valuable space, you move several times pay to move this future dream and have to explain and defend this dream purchase over and over to the wife.
here are two opportunities -- http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ct=u&car_id=289057733&dealer_id=64600767&car_year=1984&doors=&systime=&model=&search_lang=en&start_year=1981&keywordsrep=&keywordsfyc=&highlightFirstMakeModel=&search_type=both&distance=500&min_price=&drive=&rdm=1298957827008&marketZipError=false&advanced=&fuel=&keywords_display=&lastBeginningStartYear=1981&end_year=2012&showZipError=y&make2=&certified=&engine=&page_location=findacar%3A%3Aispsearchform&body_code=0&transmission=&default_sort=newsortbyprice_DESC&max_mileage=&address=44691&color=&sort_type=priceDESC&max_price=20000&awsp=false&make=FER&seller_type=b&num_records=25&cardist=83&standard=false http://keys.craigslist.org/cto/2235176630.html Not sure how these fare with 100k+ on them, and the first is out of my budget
It's always fun to keep an eye on the market - ebay, hemmings, craigslist, etc - and I've been really intrigued that there are very few 3x8s currently listed. Given the production levels, this is impressive. Today's listings on ebay, for instance, are littered with 1990s and 2000s models, but the 1980s and earlier are few and far between, and especially so with the 3x8s (I may be so bold as to say there are more Boxers listed than Mondials). The scarcity of the older v12s from 50s and 60s is to be expected, but given the economy I would expect the 80s to be represented in similar fashion to the 90s and 00s. As the eternal optimist, dare I say the 3x8 owners take more pride in ownership than the newer models? Or is this simply the 20+ year transition? I know there are a number of reasons/excuses/etc., but perhaps to most 3x8 owners enjoy the driving experience, and aren't as anxious to trade up from, say, a 360 to a scud, or a scud to a 599. Interesting concept...
Perhaps this is a good trend in the market (supply/demand and such) for us 3x8 owners. When I started looking for a 3x8 about two years ago there were about 15-20 308s on any given day. Just looked and the grand total is currently 4. It has been like this the last several times I've checked. CL listings are way down too.

Good day All, No affiliation... just found this ad on Craigslist... Perhaps someone might be interested? Cheers, Sam http://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/cto/2250192135.html $15k V8, 5 speed manual transmission. Average condition, not a show car but never mistreated or raced or driven hard. Babied by older adult and runs extremely well. Always garaged, hardly driven in the last 10 years. 79k miles with 75k mile major service done. Real Ferrari GTO mirrors (cost 5k) and I have the original. Blaupunkt stereo, AC, Red with tan leather interior. Electric windows are very stiff and sometimes won't work, door striker plates are old and sometimes doors have to be forcefully closed shut to lock, gas cap rubber apron that unfolds and protects body from pump handle is old/cracking, fuse cover loose, small drill holes in doors where mirrors weren't put on correctly the first time, prancing horse medallion came off ashtray cover but it's in the car, clock doesn't work, rear deck release cable broken and passenger window switch broken. There may be a few other, very minor things I'm not remembering as it has been rarely driven, but the car is in very nice shape for being 30 years old. Solid body, no accidents, shines up nice but could use paint as there is the usual hazing/cracking on the engine lid paint from engine heat on older 308's like this one. Interior is in great shape. All paperwork back to window sticker. Easily passed smog. Willing to have a professional, certified mechanic evaluate at buyer's cost. If I think that you are a serious buyer, I won't minding taking you for a ride but I won't let you drive it. Cash only. No trades. Please call for a response (858) 829-4862.
