I'm a newby to F430's (...traded my 348) and trying to document my just received F430 2006. My owners manual gives a small diagram of the location of the Assembly Number Plate, but just can't find the darn plate! Do I need to remove any panels/guards to see it? Also, I think I know where the Punched Gearbox Type & Number is/are, but what do I have to remove to see them? I've found and photo'd everything else that is listed in the owners manual.

    Thanks in advance.

On U.S. and Canadian F430s (Coupes, Spiders, Scuderias and 16Ms), the data plate is located on the front door jamb on the driver's side. If you open the door all the way, you can see the data plate on the jamb if you stand on the outside of the door, or if you stand on the inside of the door and look over and down. The data plate contains the VIN as well as the month and year build date of your car.

The engine type and number are stamped into the block, and can be seen by peering down into the engine bay where it is stamped into the upper left side of the block. In some cases, it is blocked by a thick plastic-looking black tube; you can just reach down there and push it out of the way. You'll see the engine type (F430 Coupe and Spider: F136 E / Scuderia and 16M: F136ED) just above the engine number; there will be a star on either side of the engine number. For an '06 model F430, the engine number should be six digits, starting with 10 or 11, depending on when it was built. The engine number stamped in the engine block will match the engine number printed on the first page of either warranty card that comes with your books (owner's manual, etc., found in the leather book case).

If you stand behind your F430 with the rear deck lid open, the assembly number is riveted into a metal bar that is directly behind the back of the car (directly on the other side of where the Challenge grille would be, if it has a Challenge grille). There are some tubes and wires in that section too, so you'll have to lean over and look straight down and maybe move some wires in order to see it. The assembly number is a stand-alone number and will not match the serial number (last six of the VIN) or the engine number; the assembly number cannot be found on the warranty card or corroborated with any other paperwork (except, maybe, certification from Mecca).

LOL, I said I posted the basics. I didn't mention the VIN stamped under the passenger's seat, the VIN tag on the other side of the driver's side door jamb, or the VIN plate on the steering column, because he said he'd already retrieved everything else. :)

Did you notice the element of selfishness to my posts, hoping he'd post the information I pointed out so that I could add it to my database? :)

Thanks alot NNO & Rifledriver. Much appreciated. It was only the Assembly No. plate that I was missing. I never thought to bend over and look backwards!

I'm still looking for a Work Shop/Mechanics Manual. I paid (wasted) $100 to ferraritechinfo.com for a 24hr subscription to their manuals and bulletins. The F430 WSM on their site was useless as it only had a few pages of the Shop Manual.

I seem to recall a web site that wanted $300-400 for WSM (without electrical diagrams), but I can't locate the site again. Any ideas?

    Thanks again. RP

The only good shop manual I have seen is the factory CD but it takes a dongle to runit and those are very expensive. I see lots of pirate CDs on Ebay and have had my hands on and run a few. I have yet to see one with a complete electrical section. The factory CD has an outstanding electrical diagram section. There are a few vendors of the real thing like ferraribooks.com if you want to pay the money.
