    Hi all!

After lurking around here for some time and absorbing all the amazing knowledge, I plunged into the deep and bought a Ferrari 412i Manual in Amsterdam, Holland yesterday. It's still at the seller's and I will pick it up next week or the week after that. I will have some minor things settled and then take the car to Zurich, Switzerland. It is notoriously hard to import a classic to Switserland, so that will take some effort in the next 6 to 12 months. In the meantime I look forward to the trip from Amsterdam via the Autobahn to Zurich!

Here are some pics. I will get some more and some more details later on.

    Greetz,
    Ben

Out of curiousity why is it so hard to import a classic to Switzerland? Is it just the tough mechanical inspections, or something else? A Swiss friend of mine here in Dubai managed to collect a few old 911s and a 308GT4, now I worry for him.

    Congrats from me too!

I've had a manual 412 for a while now and I love it! I also have a 328 GTB but I usually go for the 412 keys when I fancy a spin. The car looks very nice, what colour is it, I can't quite tell on my laptop screen?

Thanks all for the kind and welcoming words! I'll keep you posted on new developments and details.

@John: In order to import a car, Switzerland requires you to have the vehicle in an absolutely original state and in a preferably perfect mechanical and electronical state. The admission test takes about 45 minutes to one hour, in which the car itself and the papers are thoroughly checked. It even took them about 45 minutes to check a 6 year old Porsche Cayenne, so I guess a 412i will be a lot harder.

@Andy: Wir werden uns sicher treffen rund um's Zurisee!

Later this month the 412i will spend 3 days at the detailer, who will take care of the exterior, the interior (incl. the leather) and the motor bay.

Furthermore, the seller told me he had soft information this car was owned by Mario Andretti in the past (which seems not really logical to me since the car never left Europe). Anyone any idea how to check the history of the car? Perhaps a move to the Ferrari Classiche certification at Maranello (not too far away from here)?

FYI, Mario was born in Istrian peninsula town of Montona, Italy & lived there for 8 years, it's now a part of Croatia & called Motovun. It still remains his favorite vacation spot outside of the the USA. He & Enzo were no strangers either, having driven on & off for the big guy's F1 team through the 70's. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if he did, it's a notion well worth checking into.

    BTW, to upload pictures...
    1. go to the next box below the 'reply to thread' box called 'additional options',
    2. click on the 'manage attachments' box in the 'attach files' section (another window will pop up),
    3. there you can browse through your computer to upload you file(s).

    Best of luck to you,
    Bruce

    Hello Ben,

Congratulations. Did a little bit of searching for you.
The car is known in the Ferrari Club Netherlands. Sending you a PM with details.

Looks like the car was last registered on 15-09-2010 probably to the seller.
I assume you bought it from the seller.

According to what i found it is a1987 car. Based on the license plate it was imported but not sure as you receive new numbers in the netherlands also when you loose the paperwork.
Normally the license plate stays with the car its entire life and the Characters are an indications for the first year the car was registered.

There are 4 automatic and 8 manual 412 registered at the Dutch Ferrari Club at the moment including yours.

Hopefully the previous owner can help you with history.

    Enjoy those kilometers

    Peter

It was imported to the Netherlands and has been in another country before that.

    First registration: 10-07-1987
    Last registration: 15-09-2010
First registration in Netherlands: 15-07-1996 (date of import)
It's last MOT was at 23-08-2010 and valid until 23-08-2011 (1 year).

You can get these numbers when you fill in the license plate here: https://ovi.rdw.nl/VoertuigDetails.aspx

Good luck with the car. You don't see to many swiss guys buying cars over here, usually it's the other way around since you have better cars there (everyone must have a garage in swiss i heard?)
