Hello Paul: Not set in stone yet but the goal is May or June 2012, April is a small possibility. Fall is out due to Dijon being a wine region and with the vendange taking place then it would not work. Want to lock in the dates in the next few weeks, will confirm them here the minute it is decided. best wishes, Marc
Hi All MIE are doing a feature on the Khamsin Quoting from their email "Send us your high resolution image(s) and details about you, your car, and the event or story by Monday, January 24." Please email [email protected]. Just at thought if people want to contribute. Regards Graeme
Rick: Last year you posted regarding a leaking LHM reservoir grommet on your Maserati Khamsin. I need to repair /replace the same grommets on my 75 Merak. Can you advise if you ended up replacing these. Thx, Frank
Hey Frank, I posted this last night but it must have gone into the twilight zone. So, let me try again. I searched for those grommets everywhere, including Citroen sites to no avail. After trying a few "it looks like it might fit" solutions, I did the unthinkable . . . I modified the reservoir (a gasp goes thru the crowd). I pulled the old grommets out completely, cleaned a small area around each hole down to metal with a dremmel tool and then epoxied 2 small 90 degree nipples onto the reservoir facing each other. After the epoxy had set for a couple of days I took a piece of clear tubing and joined the two elbows together so I could see the level in the reservoir. It's hard to get a good picture but you get the idea. That was done about a year ago and it has been dry ever since. Rick . . . . Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Rick: Thank you for the response and for the photos. It sounds like we have followed the same course of action on this. I also sliced off the old grommets and have the reservoir cleaned and prepped for a similar fix. I can't believe how much time I've spent trying to find those stupid grommets with the built-in teeth. I was debating between using epoxy as you did or soldering a nut over the hole to screw the fitting into. Do you recall what type of epoxy was compatible with the LHM? Thx again. Frank
Frank, I used MasterBond EP31. I've attached a link to their site. Had the epoxy not worked I was going to do the same thing (welding a fitting) you were thinking. So far I've had no issue with the epoxy so no need to put a torch to the reservoir. Rick . . . . http://www.masterbond.com/tds/ep31.html
It's interesting that the reservoir on the Khamsin is different than that of the Bora. On the Bora these attachments are soldered tubes with a 90 degree bend.
I know we have a few friends from Melbourne down under on here! My middle daughter is trying to get work as a part 1 architect just now and is working there, presently in an insurance office! Anyway when she was out for coffee on sunday she saw a black Lamborghini countach QV. ( Marc, it is another type of Italian car but it was styled by Gandini! Please don't bar me from this thread!) I posted over on the lambo forum asking of anyone knows the owner. Suspect may be more Maseratists down there than Lamborghinists! Anyone know the owner? My daughter took some pics of it outside the cafe and was quite excited to see it. She thinks the owner was sitting in the cafe watching. Yes people do that for cars other than Khamsins. Strange but true Marc! Soon to be banned Paul xxxxx
Hi Paul! It is not my thread in any way shape or form nor am I a moderator or connected to fchat. As long as you don't talk about Haggis no problem I used to chase Countaches down the street in the middle of traffic as a teenager long ago (exhibit A London streets 1982...no I did not get run over) and exhibit two shows Francine Ciclet wife of the one time French importer in a famous post card. FYI am aiming to firm up the dates of Khamsin Quaranta in the next two weeks. best regards, Marc Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Rick: Thx again for such a complete answer. Bob, I think that is how it should have been on the other models as well.
Marc Thanks for that. Am sure one word form you to a moderator would be equivalent to a Fattwa! lol I think the orange LP400 belongs to Richard Earl. He may still have the car although he was trying to sell it when I last chatted to him. He also had a LHD bora , which he wanted me to buy and various other cars but had lost interest in the cars as he was collecting planes! I only ever saw a few countachs when I was younger. Far less of them in Scotland than London! sob. Likewise the Khamsins. I saw my first at the Glasgow motor show in the mid 70's and that was about it! Paul xx
The perfect way to get back on topic (ahem) is one of these photos sent to me today by a friend from...the Cayman Motor museum! I found a few other shots of it, full or partial, on the website but despite going through my vaaaast archives have been unable to identify the chassis number so far, will email museum. One more country with a K population! MS Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Update on the above Cayman (islands) Motor museum Khamsin: was just informed by a friend that it and other cars in the museum were to be part of a museum in Norway in order to avoid the massive importation duties there. When this did not work -i.e. the Norwegian goverment balked- the cars were shipped out of the country (conveniently the owners are shippers) and they end up in a museum in the Caymans...for the same reason the late Fabrizio Violati had his museum in San Marino and not on Italian soil! I had heard rumor of a K in a Norwegian museum a few years ago so this must have been it. Chassis number still unknown but the same friend who saw the car a few years ago mentioned it has not run for years and has been poorly repainted. Notice that the left side exhausts needs Viagra... MS
Thanks for the update Marc. This solves one of the Khamsin mysteries here in Norway. The owner of the Norwegian museum, Andreas Ove Ugland, didn't only move the cars to the Caymans because of car taxes, he moved himself and the company too because of other taxes. The other mystery Khamsin in Norway, double-O eight, is still in the dark. Most likely still in a garage at the Norwegian west coast.
Solved thanks to you Norwegian Khamsinites! Your friend HM saw a mystery blue Khamsin in your country about 7 years on the west coast: could that be 008? See you in Paris! MS
Lookin good Rick!!!! Just received my March 2011 issue of Classic Motorsports magazine... In it is an excellent article about the Khamsin, namely Rick's K in Georgia... I thought the article was well written and I didn't see one negative!!! This could be the start of something!!! Way to go Rick!!!! Mike D.
Yes, that's the one HM saw. As you know, we got the owners name, number and address, but he doesn't answer. Maybe René and I have to visit the west coast in the summer. It's a nice area for gran turismo. Yes, I'm looking forward to that. Marius Sorteberg Picture copyright Robert Myrene Image Unavailable, Please Login
Not fair . . . I didn't get my issue yet! It was fun putting it together and John really enjoyed the car. One funny thing that happened was when we first pulled into the Monteluce Winery where he did the shoot I went to undo my seat belt and it wouldn't release, the button would not press down. I tried to move the seat back so I could get some slack in the belt but the belt slipped out of my hand and cranked up even tighter. Embarrased, I called for John to get the screwdriver out of the tool kit and we worked the release button out of the buckle and broke it's grasp of me. What a way to start the day but it all worked out fine in the end. Rick . . . .
Marius: very eager to find out more about that car: since 002 was destroyed in a crash test and 006 is non existent as far as the factory files are concerned, a big and complete mystery, 008 is therefore the second oldest car (after 004) and I am curious to know if it is standard or has any differences therefrom. Walter: I will be at Retromobile on the 2nd from about 3pm, on the 3rd and 4th, see you there, Ja!? I looked for the article that Mike just mentioned but it is not online. Never heard of that publication. Rick: it seems your Khamsin is very fond of you if a bit possessive Speaking of articles has anybody in Europe received their issue #95 of Viale Ciro Menotti? I haven't yet. best regards, Marc
