How would you make FerrariChat.com better?

    Now that youtube videos have become so common, we're going to have the same problem with broken links to videos like we feared we might have with pictures referenced in an IMG tag.

    I've already come across a few video links from a couple of years ago that no longer work.

    The only way to avoid this is for us to store a copy of the video directly on this server rather than count on the link to another server working in the future.

    For example, both the ImageShack slide show and Youtube video links in this 2007 post no longer work:

    Too bad. They were great moments captured on film and video.

    Think how often this is going to happen with old posts a few years from now.
    Rob was smart enough years ago to insist on uploading every picture directly into fchat. We're going to need something similar for videos.

    Two thoughts...

    1) under User Control Panel, I have a list of forums I subscribe to, just like any other forum. Problem is, sometimes the page loads or my patience runs out and I click, but instead of clicking on the forum, I click unsubscribe. It happens often. Any way to change this or move it? Or even make it into an icon in a diff column?

    2) Instead of new sub forums, drilled down, with tags etc., how about image tags? Image below is a screen shot from another forum, which is a non car forum but has a sub forum for cars and this is how they are divided up. Different sub forums have different tags.

    seriously, maybe not well advertised, but people can send me their videos for upload to the server. I may also consider raising the limit for videos, there will always be videos bigger than the limit though.

    I see youtube links like any other link posted, yes they can go bad, but at least there isn't the ugly red x that makes users think something is wrong with FerrariChat.

    BTW, our server performance is great, but my hired admin and host offered me an idea and deal for new servers I couldn't turn down.

    Each of our app and db servers will be...

    Dual Intel Xeon 5620 (Quad core x 2)
    18 GB RAM
    3x147 GB SCSI 15K RAID 5 drives
    Centos 5.5 64 Bit
    1000 Mbit connection
    3000 GB transfer
    cPanel on the app server

    not that impressive to some of you, but that's much more muscle than we have now and currently performance isn't bad.

    It would be nice to have the option of choosing how many replies to show on one page - so you don't have to read a ton of pages for one thread.

    My suggestion would be for some of the more Ferrari enhanced among us to give or lend one of your "lesser" Ferraris (such as a "lowly" Mondial or 3x8) to the members who have no Ferraris yet. I'm sure we'd pass that favor on down the road... whaddaya say?

    for no extra cost just heard each server will be 24 RAM, not 16! tentative cut over Sunday morning.

    one thing at a time, but with the performance we can start untying and opening up stuff that we had limited in past for sole reason of performance. however, I still believe in a clean presentation of FerrariChat.

    Another good reason for my idea, that Gone in 60 seconds thread I would of noticed quicker instead of discovering it on jalopnik.com :eek: and I'm sure they would give those Intel Xeon 5620 a nice work out :eek:

    The latest version of tapatalk now supports direct image upload but the option isn't selectable for Fchat. Is there something that needs to be done on your end to activate it?

    I know this has been mentioned a LOT... but given we're on new servers with a LOT
    more power...

    S P E E D up search!!! At least for Rossa.... given the flaky nature of the vB search,
    30 seconds can be an ETERNITY trying to find something that's not readily searchable....
