.... I need the same information!

My 1977 GTB's evaporator has a crack and is leaking on my radio power amp, mounted in the passenger foot-well. I've been through 3 amps in the past year.
Yep, I just figured it out!

Lots of moisture in the area. I'd like to remove it and possibly repair, more likely replace...

    How to remove??

    Thanks in advance,
    Greg in Houston

OK, table 44 in the 308 spare parts manual shows the blower/evaporator unit, and how it's situated in the dash.
Doesn't exactly show what needs to come out first, fasteners, etc. Obviously the A/C system needs to be vacuumed completely, as there are A/C hose fittings on the unit.

Rather than repair my cracked evaporator housing, I would MUCH prefer to replace the entire thing with a higher-capacity unit.

So, IS THERE A DEFINITIVE ANSWER TO THE QUESTION: Is there a new, higher-capacity drop-in replacement blower/evaporator for the 308?

I would prefer no modding to the car, just drop in a new, BETTER one!!!

    Thanks,
    Greg

    Hi Greg,

I had this problem in another car and found it was caused by the condensate drain hose coming off of the evaporator housing. Is this what you are referring to??

No, the hose is tight. There's a crack in the plastic housing at the leading edge. Dropping water right onto my radio amp!
    Lucky me!

Maybe I could repair it in situ. BixTex said to use florist clay, or a new injectable water-activated sealant.
    ??

I'd really rather replace the whole shootin' match with a better unit, to get more fan speed; comes in useful during Houston summers!!

I have removed the ac compressor and would really like to remove the evaporator and blower assembly from below the dash.
Can you remove this assembly with the dash in place? I looked under there yesterday –and I cannot see any mounting screws or fasteners to remove the assembly. any help woud be greately appreciated..
    Thank you

If you guys are able to yank the evap with box/blower WITHOUT yanking the entire dashboard, yous are dang lucky stiffs! With all the cars I have , some old, most having new evaps, I always had to yank dashboard. Its a huge project, and usually is referred to by the pros as "distasteful".

    Good luck.

No need to remove dash to remove AC evaporator box!

If memory serves, there's a couple/three bolts that need to come off. Only visible when lying on your back looking up. Not easy for a big guy like me, but I got it done. Maybe I removed the fuse panel and relay blocks, don't remember now--been 3+ years ago!

    Good luck,
    Greg
