So what will be the last Pininfarina designed Ferrari? 360?
Ironic that the company rolls out the Aperta to celebrate Pininfarina's 80th year and then drops them.
With Lamborghini using Italdesign exclusively now, it's going to be interesting to see what Ferrari do all on their own. I have to think there will be a design house used for special editions and flagships somewhere along the line. Bertone looks like an option, but I'm still partial to the use of Touring again. _J
Recall from the early days that Ferrari went through quite a few design houses besides PF; Vignale, Bertone, etc. It takes a while to forge the perfect match. Ken Okayuma "...who worked for Pininfarina designing or supervising projects such as the Enzo Ferrari and Ferrari P4/5." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ken_Okuyama
According to Wikipedia, Pininfarina is currently manufacturing and assembling the 599 GTB, 612 Scaglietti, and California. I don't understand, doesn't Ferrari do all the work on these cars in their assembly line in Maranello? What purpose does Pininfarina serve anymore? Ferrari has 3000 employees, aren't they able to design and manufacture their own cars within their company?
Tough to tell but it looks a bit less "Buck Rogers" than some of the recent dashes. More suited to a 2+2
Looks classy but there are some major changes. Lager flippers for the gearchange than the current 612 and California. Also, more mannetino settings than for the current 612. New seats with new styling. Quite a classy interior. I like it!
Design and production are at two ends of the spectrum. Wikipedia is an awful source and as an example, Pininfarina doesn't manufacture or assemble anything. From paper to production show-car Pininfarina is involved, but it doesn't go much further than that. Unless you're looking for a one-off. It's too California for me. I'd like to see some brushed aluminum and carbon fiber here and there.... The quilted stitching is nice also, but I suppose we'll have to wait and see about some options a bit further down the road. _J
That's why I'm inclined to believe Ferrari will use Pininfarina for special editions, as to give some sort of false prominence to an already special car. Ferrari's clientele are getting younger and younger, so a more "exclusive" use of Pininfarina may have some sort of marketing advantage to those who are more uneducated about the tight ties the two companies have had over the years. Think of how special a Lamborghini with a Bertone label would look. Same old friend, different presentation. And all of the sudden, your desirability goes up a little. _J
I hope you're right. I love the Lambo/Bertone link. Now that Guigiaro's Ital design is part of the VW group who knows. He was a Bertone man originally after all.
I think you will find that the 612 replacement is pure Pininfarina (for the exterior at least) and with the teaser pic confirms my suspicion that it was inspired by their Sintesi showcar from a couple of years ago. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
