Oh, man, I'm so sorry to hear this.

I fear it's a sign of the times - the Ferrari store vandalized, your house, my parent's house in Phoenix, and my M3 convertible top slashed earlier this month (and trunk walked on - I saw footprints). People are struggling, and they take it out on anyone who doesn't outwardly appear to be hurting as bad as they are.

The feelings of anger and having your personal property and private space violated never go away quickly enough, and it's maddening that there's nothing that can be done about injustices like these. Again, I feel your pain, and hope everyone in your home recovers from this setback as soon as possible.

It's all just material crap, though, and the fact that every person is okay is the best consolation you can have. If there's anything you feel like chatting about, PM me and we'll exchange phone numbers.

Seems to be a growing trend in this economy. More thefts are happening. As an insurance broker, I am seeing many more claims in the last few years. You might want to check with your carrier about how much your rates will go up before filing the claim. Some carriers have an automatic 33% increase for any claim regardless of how much is paid. The claim surcharge usually stays on for at least three years, so it may end up costing you more in premium than what you recover. Also, usually the carriers apply the deductible from the total amount of the claim and then pay the applicable limit for Jewelry and Money. You might want to check for future claims if your carrier has the ability to buy additional jewelry coverage on a blanket basis. This is now available with many companies. Let me know if you need any advice on these issues. Again, sorry to hear about the loss.

A very good friend of mine was also robbed last week in the hills of Larkspur in Marin.
Happened during the day as well. Watches, computers, expensive purses and coats. Such a shame. They left the house in a complete mess.

So sorry to hear about your rubbery.

    Be careful everyone.....

My parent's house was robbed last year. The dang thieves stole about 150K worth of personal items. Now they have an alarm. They live in a seemingly very nice community with multi million dollar houses, where several houses have been robbed over the years. Their home owners association has been trying for over 20 years to have a gate installed, but the stupid community below theirs, where the gate would be placed has always fought against installment of the gate ( for fear of their housing prices dropping) and a few of the residents in the community are always against the gate (not wanting to be snobbish). All the while houses keep getting robbed. What has this world come to. I'm sorry this unfortunate thing has happened to you.

Well, truth is, a determined robber will not be discouraged by a stupid gate...

Exactly why i have installed 3 new cameras (logitech 700 alert). Motion detection, night vision, blinking LEDs, and the feed gets backed up on microsd, my desktop, and also the cloud server. I can also look at a live feed on my iphone. install took 2 hours, no wiring needed, signal goes from the electrical wires to the router.
Someone tries to rob me, they better smile.

Sorry to hear about your experience. It does feel awful for a while.

That sounds like a neat system.

What are the specific units you purchased?

Get ready to see crime go way up in the South Bay as SJPD will lay off 200 sworn police officers on July 1st.

Actually, crime statistics should skyrocket over the next few years across the country as most agencies will fire and/or reduce the pay of thousands of law enforcement officers.

I believe, for the most part, in smaller gov't and budget cuts, but there should be no compromise when it come to public safety...

Oh man, sorry to hear about this. That's terrible. Our neighborhood here in SJ had a string of break-ins in Spring/early-Summer 2010. Apparently, it was a juvenile living in the neighborhood who got caught in Santa Cruz in a vehicle he stole - wait for it - from a neighbor.

Everything's been quiet since then....until: Thanksgiving Day, 2010, the guy across the street knocks on our door to let us know that his next-door neighbor's door got kicked down earlier in the day while they were out.

The next week, I had calls in to alarm folks, and I think I found a real winner in a company HQ'd right there in your neck of the woods - Campbell. They're called "The Alarm Company." Look 'em up, give 'em a call - whatever - I think you'll be satisfied. We had our system installed in early December and have been very happy with them, the service, the install guys, EVERYthing.

If you want any more details, feel free to PM me. Sorry again to hear about your break-in.

Often once you install that gate the county or city will no longer maintain the streets, the homeowners then have to cover that cost and it's expensive. One solution is to have video cameras installed that can read license plates. The camera combined with a good data logger and you can track down the bad guys.

if you go around and check your windows you will often find one of them open, this is what thieves bank on.

Agreed. Politicians always scare us with laying off essential personnel but they never want to talk about laying of the useless paper pushers we could surely live without...

Cops are the clean up crew they do very little to detour crime, they work harder at writing tickets than chasing bad guys. Empower yourself, put a few lights out and get a good 9mm or 45.

We could use half the public employees we have and do just fine.
