Ferrari keeps the crap up and soon my 308 will be the highly embarrssed standard barer for a line of SUVs, farm impliments and golf carts. I'll then have to sell it, as I don't own any gold chains. I HOPE SOMEONE from Ferrari SpA is reading these posts .....
Overreact much? Both Porsche and Lamborghini have made tractors and sport utility vehicles and it hasn't impacted their mystique. Many Testarossa owners in the eighties had gold chains, and even white linen sportscoats with shoulder pads. Doesn't take away from the marque. Chicken Littles, the sky isn't falling.
You can like or dislike whatever you want, but IMO Ferrari has lost the point now just because Internet didn´t exist in the 60´s. I wish I could read Ferrarichat when the Daytona was launched.
Everything "borrows" from everything. I find it so funny that people hold up the Lambo Espada, Maserati Khamsin, and Lotus Elite as something "wonderful" and then shoot down this because it has a similar back. Cars ARE compromise. They get more compromised every year by regulations and market changes. And, I find it really small minded of so many people to criticise the work of a design from just a few simple photos. If it were up to you guys, we'd still be making art in the Leondardo Di Vinci fashion! Oh you Monet, Picasso, Dali, Warhol, and Jackson Pollack -- what the hell are you thinking! Geez for a bunch of guys who think of themselves as self proclaimed art critics, you sure have a rather narrow view of the universe and creativity. At least look at the object FIRST before you shoot it down. Is that too much to ask? And don't give me this "we already have seen it and we don't like it" stuff. You might as well judge the Mona Lisa from a postage stamp reprint. One last thing. Many of you cannot accept the IDEA of the FF. It's somehow "not Ferrari" to make a 4 seater. It's "too commercial". It's "too useable and not sporty enough". It's "not exotic enough" If it isn't a 2 seat fire breathing sports car, you turn up your noses and say Ferrari has lost it's way. Well, not everyone wants a 2 seat fire breathing sports car. Enzo knew that too. Get over it.
They NEVER had the mystique or marque Ferrari HAD. NEVER EVEN Close. True to an 80's POV. (F-Chat is missing a sarcasm font). You can have the jellybeans and the new fire-ridden, melted Enzo. I'll take "The CARS." Please do the modern European thing and remove all the emblems as I embarrass easily. Agreed?
Honestly you cant tell me you find the FF an attractive cars! I do wonder how long that que of beholders is going to be after say 2 years....the one good thing is this model is not the volume seller....
I think there are plenty of well-informed enthusiasts who would argue that point. Porsche parallels Ferrari in so many ways, including racing DNA. And Porsche even has their own FF, called the Panamera
I'll say what I've said many times already. I absolutely hate the Ferrari released photos. It looks pretty bad if not hideous. But, perhaps as a designer myself, I can see the potential of something really quite beautiful if seen in person. And, for a 4 place daily driver GT (which is it's PURPOSE), it's a clever and interesting design. Whether it works in person or not, I do not know. But, from the photos, I'm not willing to cut it apart yet.
I think someone said it best - times are a changing. the 458 is very good looking, the best car they have made since the 355... way better than 360 - 430... the FF... well not so much... Ferrari is being squeezed by Fiat for every dime it can make, so it has to go more main stream... I think Enzo would be smiling all the way to the bank...
Are we going to go through this every time Ferrari releases a new model? It's been the same reaction that I can recall since the introduction of the 360. What a bunch of whiners.
To some, the world stopped working in the early 90's. I kind of like comparing it to children. They were so cute, lovable, and fun to be around when they were 5. What happened to them when became teenagers????
I agree with Spirot -- a lot of us liked the 458 from the first photo. The 360/F430 was widely regarded as an aesthetic misstep. The 355 was pretty universally admired, as was the 308/328. The 308 GT4 was largely disliked. It's perfectly valid to gauge reaction when a new model is unveiled. I don't think that every new Ferrari has been roundly criticized here. I do think that we haven't seen anything that really gets the blood racing since the F40. Ferrari is in a design slump, although IMHO the 550/575 is a handsome car.
Some love the 458 some hate it.. Some love the FF some hate it.. some love the 599 some hate it...some love the California some hate it Same ole same ole Personally, while I think all four are attractive in their own way I dont love any of them. If I want to look at a car thats beautiful Ill go to an Aston Martin dealership. Out of everything Ferrari has released since the 550 the only thing that really gets my heart racing are the 550 Barchetta, 16M and 599GTO.
I agree about Aston Martin. They somehow leapfrogged everyone else over the last decade. I think you'll find more love for the 458 than the bigger Ferraris, though.
I'm sorry Bullfighter but you need to go back to the 458 intro threads. It was not universally accepted. And, it's a 2 seat sports car so you would expect it to be more enthusiastically supported by this group. There were complains from the headlights, the nose wings, the proportions, the weight, the lack of side scoops, it's size, it being too heavy looking, even the rear view mirrors were criticized. Many people once again said it was "no 355" and that Ferrari had "lost it's way". You say the F430 is an aesthetic misstep. Well, I strongly disagree. You should see the number of people who give my car the "thumbs up" and snap a picture everytime I drive it. I look at the car and I truly love the way it looks. Do I like every detail? No. But the overall package is still wonderful to me. Those people who give me the "thumbs up" are the ones who understand what they like... not the purist Fchatters who frequent this site and would love to write a the "bad review" of a play or movie in the newspapers. You may have a point, but you're being way too prejudiced by your own tastes to make such claims. "Widely regarded a misstep"? Sorry I beg to differ.
I just go to maserati... Quatroporte... Homerun Gran Turismo... Walk off homerun Gran Cabrio... Pinch hit grand slam.
It's funny but I think he Qporte already looks dated. Its still the nicest looking 4 door on the market but to me, it's already lost some of it's luster. The Mas GT and GT cab are really attractive with the surprise being the coupe better looking than the cab with it's top down. The Alfa 8C is already passe' to me. I'm over it. The funky retro front never caught my eye. What does this prove? Nothing... but that we all have different tastes in vehicles.
