Please forgive if this is a repost, apologies in advance.

In the movie, there is a young man who 'interviews' Mr. Ferrari over the course of the movie, who turns out to be the son of a test driver that died.

I love the movie. But....I absolutely detest the sarcasm, castigation, utter disrespect and lack of manners shown by the "interviewer". I'm Southern, and raised with manners, but this goes far beyond. In my view it overshadows the entire movie, save for the historical turns in the development of the company, particularly the WWII scene where is factory is saved. Why....why was this pathetic little urchin of a character necessary to divulge the 'truth' from the aged character of Enzo Ferrari?? Why?

I'm quite sure that any such tone in reality, at it's onset, would have been shown the door and banned from the premises. Men of respect are not required to endure such.

I'm sure this has been done to death, but did anyone else notice this? Or am I missing something?

Yes i thought along the same lines.
I also thought putting the wooden acting aside, this movie was a wasted opotunity. Which was a shame because some of it had potentual.

I think the journalist/interviewer was Enzo's hallucination. He was questioning his own methods. Should be clear if you watch the end again. If I remember correctly, he gave a note to his son without any writing on it. It's been a while since I've seen it hehe.

I wonder if they are gonna include Lamborghini in this film also. Shoot he deserves his own followup movie!

Me too - a hallucination of his dead son is the way I understood it.

That is certainly clear at the end of the movie.

But....even that doesn't offset the totally rudeness. Perhaps that is Enzo's self-deprecation....? Self-hate, his demons. Even then...that could've been presented to the extent that it becomes the tone of the interaction, at least in my opinion. Perhaps I'm just sensitive about manners. My mother would kill me quickly if I ever spoke to an old gentleman like that.

The Lamborghini element would have been perfect in the movie.....it would have been consistent with the series of conflicts that happened.

Also....Ferrari was well into his 50's before the company was born. The actor looks much younger throughout. Enzo's wife, from what I've read, was understated in the movie as she was, by all accounts, meddlesome to the point of causing the great walkout of the early 60's.

It is really neat to see all those old mounts in action. Fiat and Alfa were the kings in those days, the introduction of Nuvolari's driving style. That's just cool to see all that close up, what it might have looked like in the sparse, dangerous days of early racing. It's amazing to think how Ferrari himself was so crucial to getting things from there to where they are today. It is undeniable that had his iron will not been at operation in this particular time/place/culture, that the auto world would be different today. That's one thing I get from the movie.....that this man had an unbreakable determination at every turn. It seems impossible to deny.

I had to buy it on Amazon... but it's really not a very good movie. It was meant
as a mini-series, so it's bloody LONG AS HELL - 4+ hours or so. It's beautifully filmed,
but the SOUNDTRACK is just oppressive - dramatic strings play CONSTANTLY - it's
actually such a relief in the few brief moments when it STOPS. It makes it (at least
to me) almost impossible to watch. The acting is mundane at best - and if
you WANT TO SEE FERRARIS, you'll be completely wasting your time! There are a
few at the beginning (1940s first models), and a 3x8 / Mondial near the end. That's IT.

Just one Jedi's opinion.... but this movie is only a C- in my book.

    Jedi

[edit] do a search - I recall there was another thread on this movie last year sometime,
and there was a "traveling pants" DVD - folks were mailing it around to each other to watch...
If in fact that one is dead, I would happily start it up again with my own copy. -Jedi

If any of you have seen Entourage, the main character plays Enzo Ferrari in a movie they were making. I wish they made a movie out of that. I would've loved to see it :)

According to Jedi's review, I don't think I'd want to watch it

    No 'rari's = :(

So should I offer up my DVD as the "Brotherhood of the traveling DVD" as was done
before? I mail it to the first person who watches it and mails it on.... HOPEFULLY making
the rounds and ending up back with me (no, not a fave movie but it was $30 + UPS so
    I'd want it back ;))

Anyone want to do this? I'm fine with it....

Guess we'd better skip that then, no offer is made herein. The copyright is 2003.

Cogitation on said matter is discontinued. Thanks for the clarification.

If you add up all the minutes with ANY cars - vintage or otherwise - it's about TEN MINUTES TOTAL!

Yes it's probably worth watching - but the movie is NOT ABOUT CARS AT ALL! It's all
about the demons Enzo wrestled with.... it's a bio-pic not a car flick.

My take on the movie was to show Enzo as not a family man but followed his dream of making the best sports car in history....at all cost. The reporter was an illusion of Dino, who when alive was not the apple of his eye. The movie honestly does not paint Enzo is the best of light but more as a womanizer and focused on his cars. As "Jedi" mentioned the soundtrack I'll only comment that if you like classical music I think you would enjoy the soundtrack which can be found on iTunes...different strokes for different folks. If you want the dvd Amazon is your best bet.

Oh, it's GREAT MUSIC! It's just wall-to-wall, one end of the movie to the other,
with literally maybe 10 or 20 minutes where it's NOT playing - always very dramatic,
whether the scene called for it or not. It's just too much IMO "of a good thing" - 4 hours +

But BEAUTIFUL music and BEAUTIFUL cinematography.

Ten minutes of cars like that are enough for me......are we splitting hairs oh Jedi? I can't decide if you like or dislike the movie. Are you a movie critic?

    Cinematography is fantastic too....

Read my review. It's a few posts back - I'm not saying it's utter crap runaway! runaway!,
and I'm not saying it's all that great either. It's all in the short review.

    Seems pretty simple to me

One of the best movie lines of all times comes from one of the last lines in the movie: "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence".

    It goes

"When the legend becomes fact, print the legend".

I feel the same way about Enzo Ferrari. Personally, what actually happened in his life -- his triumphs, his tragedies, and his failings -- mean nothing to me.

But, the pieces of art and engineering that left his factory do.
