Interesting find on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1998-BAE-Sea-Harrier-FA2-1290-TTAF-870-TTE-/270692336656?pt=Motors_Aircraft&hash=item3f06854410
LOL!! "the Ultimate Gift for that special person who already has one of everything -- except this" Just don't see this sort of thing on eBay very often... I doubt it will sell ("Paypal Account Required"!!).... But thanks for posting the link Jedi
No joke...and can you imagine the time and money required for a type rating in THAT bad boy?? I have my doubts about it being possible.
I got a chuckle out of this question. Questions and answers about this item Q: WILL YOU TAKE A CHECK? A: It would have to be a bank check from a major US bank and you would have to wait until it clears before we can proceed with the transaction details.
I ONLY pay in CASH!! Change please in 100-dollar US notes please.... Jedi Image Unavailable, Please Login
The Harrier would not be that hard to fly, until you started to screw with the nozzles and try to hover. At that point you better have a lot of formation flying time or a lot of rotary wing time. Taz Terry Phillips
I know how these transactions work. You make the check out for more than the jet costs, then I send back the excess amount. I'll get on it first thing in the morning.
Rotary time might help a little but this is different, in the helicopter I have the lift on top of the aircraft and no so with this type of plane. I wouldn't dare try hovering one of these without lots of simulator and hands on instruction. Otherwise it will be a very expensive cremation if one fails to eject on time.
.... some assembly required.... Then again, if you can afford it, it would be very cool.... Just bring money, bags of it..
The Harrier pilots I have talked to say the throttle movements are similar to what is involved in flying close formation in a fighter, or what a helicopter pilot does with the collective when he hovers. It really makes no difference where the lift is generated, it is the fine tuning of the controls to maintain a hover or translate that is critical. The USMC had TAV-8 two seaters for initial qual training, but getting a ride in one would be virtually impossible unless you were a huge celebrity of some sort, political or otherwise. Neve Campbell, for instance, was offered a ride with the Blue Angels. She and I talked about it when we sat next to each other on a flight out of Salt Lake City after the Sundance film festival. A guy I grew up with went to Annapolis after high school and wound up flying Harriers. He later got sent to Colorado Springs and was an instructor at the Air Force Academy about the time of our 20 year high school reunion. I remember talking to him about flying that plane and his comment was "It's attention intensive".
The buyer's going to need one of these: http://jalopnik.com/5715336/how-to-fly-the-harrier-jump-jet/gallery/
