All these number sound INSANE! My brain just grow 1 inch.
at over 21lbs of boost i wonder about the long term reliability. BTW anyone know what the warranty will be?
One more before I sign off, for those that aren't getting the client updates from McLaren. A couple of journalist reviews they included in an email today: Ben Oliver: "The car soon starts delivering what Ron Dennis promised: performance from half a segment or a segment above where the 12C's price suggests it competes. That turbo torque constant between 3000 and 7000rpm means you don't have to work for it or wait for it. You get an instant tightening of the chest, an adrenalized, fight-or-flight physiological response; the concern that you've crossed the line from fast to too fast, that as a driver you might not be up to the job. The change from first to second happens too quickly to analyse but the way the seven-speed, twin-clutch 'box shifts from second to third might be unmatched by any road car. It happens so fast the rate of acceleration surging again as you drop back from the 8500rpm redline into the meat of the torque that it ought to be violent; instead its seamlessness is disorientating." Unamed in email (seems like formatting error)- "I was just as impressed with the 12C's completeness. In auto mode, this 330kph car just bimbles off into the traffic, the gearbox changing early and imperceptibly, the ride unbelievably compliant over bad surfaces, the visibility perfect both past the narrow A-pillars and even backwards. Despite being so low, the headroom is huge; the cabin feels airy and the driving position is straight and perfect. Frankly, it doesn't feel like a supercar at all. Aren't there supposed to be compromises? Aren't you meant to hit your head on the way in, and suffer some contorted driving position, and live in constant fear of scraping a flank on a pillar? Not in this car. McLaren's official spokespeople have been wary of over-promising. The one thing they did promise was a broader range of ability than any other supercar, and that, they've delivered. This is a supercar you'll feel comfortable in faster, and drive faster sooner, than any other."
It's been an exciting morning. Does the engine sound a bit 'american' to others as well? At idle it sounds a bit lopsided. Or maybe it sounds a bit like the Audi V8. At full tilt it retains that guttural sound.
Personally I think it's very fast and will be great to drive. Personally I think it looks like barf. Personally I think if it looked good Ferrari would be in BFT.
I'm 6'4" and 210lbs,very comfy and ergonomically perfect driving position for me in the McLaren. 458 is much more spacious inside though, less claustrophobic.
In other words, only true connoisseurs can truly understand the staggering superiority of Italia over MP4? Us, poor rubes, who find the McLaren design fine just don't have the sophistication? Is this a serious argument? This is just laughable.
Kudos to McLaren for doing two things; Building a kick ass sports car Ruffling the feathers of alot Ferrari faithful..... Competition is a good thing. Just like on the racetrack....
Yes, and laughable are also the clowns who (without even seeing one MP4 or reading independent acc tests, handling test etc) declare that this would murder the 458 in the dynamics department.
Actually, if you want to talk big, let's take a bet on independent performance tests. Come on, let's see how confident you are.
PCOTY from CAR magazine, Car of the year from Auto Bild (beating the 997 TT) also by ranking arrangement put in 2nd position by EVO at ECOTY 2010 (maybe they get some checks from Stuttgart ????? ) And you can check the lap times also
There will be head to head tests of the two cars soon enough all over the place. Wanna bet, who's gonna win on performance: lap times, straight line, etc.?
Are we talking about british magazines ? Are we talking about MP4 with velcro instead of road rubber ?
I wouldn`t be as jumpy as you when it comes to lap times and other KPI`s but obviously you are just a kid, eh
LOL technical term of course ...not surprising the 'better' peformance stats, they should be able to do more with more http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=140290501&postcount=736
Meaning you are proud that Ferrari gives you less for your money? I understand intangibles and all that jazz, but this argument is a testimony to blind love.
Holy ass kicking!! That wasn't even close. There is no way there is 100 lbs difference between the 12C and the 458. I think some of you guys are right. It probably is 300 lbs or more.
And, though it's hard to see, in full screen it looks as if it's still extending the lead as they disappear into the distance at the end of the vid.
