I wouldn't think there is enough time for a plan B, IMO if it not been sorted to some extent it will be cancelled.

The heavy handed tactic's are not working, in fact they have made it worse by all accounts.

Hummm, I think you are talking about migrant workers who are only allowed in the UAE for a few years. They are not citizen; most of them come from other Muslim countries: Indonesia, Pakistan, Bengla Desh. Their situation is quite precarious, they can be sent back any time. For many it's a golden opportunity if you listen to them. 3 years' wage in Dubai is a fortune to take back home.

The majority of actual citizen is quite well-off, middle-class level, I would say.

agreed .. the UAE is a little different to the rest of the region in that its actual citizens ARE taken care of & thus quite content with their current regime

This just got escalated. Bad bad idea to attack a majority protest by a minority desperate government. Bernie better have plan B ready to go. The protesters will be emboldened and do more now as they are a majority. If you have tickets maybe a refund is in order.

Here's a few quotes from a journalist using Twitter:
#Bahrain opposition MP says about 60 people missing after police storm protest camp

Eyewitness in Pearl square, Manama last night tells BBC that health minister banned doctors from treating injured protesters

ambulance driver told me army officer held gun to his head, said wld kill him if helped injured.

Abt 10 ambulance paramedics attacked by #Bahrain police. I interviewed them, saw their injuries.

At hospital in #Bahrain. 600 brought here w/ injuries as of 8 am, more since. Beatings, shotgun pellets, rubber bullets.

Sounds like the GP and testing could be in doubt, although I think the authorities would be very reluctant to cancel the Grand Prix.

Cancelling is overdue. This is not a small event. This is a national upheaval. F1 doesn't matter. No one at Lloyds will underwrite anything or cover anyone.

Story and footage was on the Today show this morning. A number of reporters with cameras are not allowed and are essentially being beaten the same as anyone else. A reported (audio footage only) had his broadcast recorded when he was beaten down by the authorities.

I would be amazed if the protests went into March. That long it would almost be a war....
    On the other hand.....

F1 must realize the mere act of showing up in Bahrain is a show of support for the current regime. This alone would make F1 a target for protest...

Seems to me things are going to get worse in the coming days...

I got a feeling the race might be either cancelled or postponed. But then again, there's still some time...

Will F1 support democratic freedom, or will it support the all powerful Dollar ( or whatever currancy)? Sure, monies have been commited and expended for a race in this country, but Bahrain is now, ore or less, in a state of Monarch controlled mitlitary crackdown.
Which path is more correct? Dance for the people of Bahrain, or dance for the Masters of the people? Even if F1 holds the race, it will be under military seige and pssible bloodshed in the streets...How will this look to the world audience at large? Will this give F1 a blackended political eye? or will it look like F1 will only "dance" for the most deeply pocketed countries that want a "prestige" sporting event to use for their "jewelery"?
