Just move the race to Indy in a couple weeks. I'll be the first one there :)
Plan B will be something like Melbourne becomes first GP, Bahrain moved to Summer break or end of season. They could cancel it altogether, and then Bernie will sue for breach of contract...
Wow, I didn't know what was happening in Bahrain until I just saw that the GP2 race is cancelled. I gotta catchup on world happenings.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/motorsport/formula_one/9400392.stm Logistically a different venue will be very difficult to set up if the race is cancelled.
Bernie says a decision will be made by Tuesday or wednesday, if things haven't quoted down they will definitely cancel. He also said not to make travel plans there http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/17022011/58/ecclestone-bahrain-decision-next-week.html
Fu@k Bahrain. The goverenment is corrupt and oppressive. F-1 should stay far far away. viva la revolucion!!!!
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110217/ap_on_re_mi_ea/ml_bahrain_protests See the picture of a surgeon leading a protest at a hospital treating the wounded. Now the gov't 'regrets' the crackdown. A surgeon leading a protest - this is not a government that will survive. Bernie, do not race in Bahrain please. This gov't there does not deserve it.
F1 needs to do the responsible thing and stay the hell away from this situation..... Skip the race this year
There is a "force majeure" clause in the boiler plate of just about every contract. He may try to sue but I suspect his counsel would know it is pointless. Considering the global scale of F1 coverage I imagine protesters would want to take advantage of the F1 circus coming to town. I'm sure F1 wouldn't want their image tarnished by the debate or silencing of the debate.
Bahrain is in lockdown http://channels.isp.netscape.com/news/story.jsp?flok=FF-APO-+&idq=/ff/story/1001%2F20110217%2F0352.htm&sc=+&floc=NI-nelead
You're spot on; look how the cancellation is worded on the GP2 site: http://gp2series.com/News-Room/News/2011/02_Feb/2011-GP2-Asia-Series-Round-2-cancelled/
My understanding is that slavery is used in Bahrain so I have always been embarrassed that the Australian V8 Supercars and F1 race there. We should not. My understanding is that your passport is removed and thus you cannot leave, etc. Nobody should be able to do that to any other person. http://gvnet.com/humantrafficking/Bahrain.htm Pete
