Fellow Canadian Ferrari fans, what are your thoughts on the new McLaren? The stats are certainly impressive and we've all heard the luke-warm reception to the styling, but I want to hear a strictly Canadian perspective.

Who's ordering one? For those outside the GTA, has having only one dealer (Pfaff) affected your purchasing decision?

    Curious to hear your thoughts!

I won't deal with Pfaff again. Because of the luke warm reviews re: excitement, I'll wait til I can drive one.

That's pretty cryptic sounding?? Want to elaborate, really don't understand what you meant.

I live in Vancouver. I *WAS* planning to buy an MP4-12C but having ONE dealer way the f*ck out in Toronto is insanely stupid.

I'll either get one in Hong Kong instead or do a 458 in its place.

Just curious, what's the list price of MP4/12C in Canada? and compared to 458?

Plenty of customers have made due without having an actual dealer in their town. I've been told from several sources that around 40% of Ferrari of Vancouver's new sales went to Calgary before Ferrari of Alberta opened. Owners in Calgary simply had the car shipped back to Van for warranty work. Not ideal, but it was a condition of ownership that was mostly accepted.

    Similar situation now with Lamborghini...

I know there are a few members that have 12C orders out side of the GTA... Has Pfaff addressed the out of area servicing issue? Will they ship the car back and forth? Or have specified service days at satellite locations?

Point taken... I could live with shipping a car between BC and AB .... but Vancouver and Toronto?! That's just crazy!

McLaren really screwed that one up. Canada needs at least 2 dealers, and if they could only have one, there's probably more $$$ sitting in AB alone than in all of eastern Canada!

    I dont think so. :)

But I fully agree there is tonnes of money and that there should be a second location in the West.

As far as I know they have a certified McLaren tech that will be flown to the car wherever it may be. And quite a car it is.

if your already paying that price tag amount for the car... then whats the difference in shipping it? I wouldn't think this would be the SERIOUS reason why you won't buy one....

Just because Vancouver is the worlds #1 city, doesn't mean that you deserve a McLaren dealership! :p

That's the policy with the F1, not the MP4-12C as far as I'm aware.

Well, it's a serious reason for me. If I'm having to fly technicians over and/or give the car up for 8 weeks at a time for regular servicing and dealing with the hassle/worries of rail shipment etc etc..... that's a pretty high inconvenience factor .... esp versus a 458. I'm really hoping to get an MP4-12C but if they can't figure out a way to reduce the hassle factor with one dealership in Toronto, I'll just go with a 458.

Also bear in mind, this is the first year model of first year road car manufacturer.... there are going to be glitches and I (and I think many others) do not want to risk having the cars sit idle or away for so long. And yes, the increased cost does factor it in as welll..... I can buy 10 of these cars, but it doesn't mean I throw away $$ stupidly if I don't need to.

haha!!! Good one! There are alot of swelled heads on the west coast from those rankings (including mine at times). Me, I love Vancouver, but I'm amazed at how Vancouver could rank so high in these Economist/UN rankings despite no major industries, constant rain and little depth in the culture/arts/fun department.

*ducks to avoid wrath of fellow Vancouverites*

PS - VERY interested from other prospective purchasers from Western Canada on their views as well.

Thats what us Torontonians and Montrealers have been thinking for years.....

I think that Vancouver has a huge "green factor" that many cities don't have, and people seem to enjoy life, nature and work at a good balance. Compared to Toronto where its a rat race and stress every day. And not to mention very high costs with very little in return. (TTC, taxes, government etc...)

    RiskArb -

Have you spoken to Pfaff ?? I sure they have a plan of action in place & could easily answer your queries.

I agree with you that the first model year is always going to have issues of one kind or the another.
