Re-Originals has (3) different NOS lighters, each a different length barrel; 50mm, 57mm and 67mm. These are not cheap ($240), so before I take the plunge I want to be sure I'm getting the correct one.

Also, McCann has lighters for $145 doesn't indicate if they're repro's or what length. Anyone have experience with his Dino lighter?

Since I don't have any in my car, does anyone know which is the correct length?

Ron, this is the one I will use for my Dino/ most Alfa Romeo. As far as I know, they are all the same length.
Possibly there existed longer ones for the Virginia Slims cigarettes of yore. I don't think it makes any difference, and as you can tell, if I measured properly, mine is 54.6mm.
Under the console, you can fit any length. There is a ton of space.
Part number wise, The "L" series is a different one from M & E series (same one).
They often appear on e-bay. Or, get in touch with APE (Alfa Parts Exchange) (209) 365-1383 and ask SPECIFICALLY for an Alfa lighter for a GTV that works. Be very patient with Larry Sr. as he is well known for his temper.

There are (2) Dino lighters that have been on eBay for quite some time, however one is priced at $325 and the other ~$365...which is way more than the Re-Original's $240 (still steep for something I'd never use).

I agree, thus try APE, and better yet, buy a lighter that does not work...

isn't this one those generic things that costs $5.00 to a Fiat owner, $25.00 for an Alfa Owner and $250.00 for Ferrari owner?

They used to be a dime a dozen, unfortunately like everything, they are fading away...
I bought mine in Italy for $100....+ airplane ticket. Good deal, no? ;-)

Mine was INOP and I dug into it; good retraction, proper release and fairly clean sliding action - so what the heck is up with it?

Pulling the DVM out I isolated the failure to the insulated contact at the end - there was no continuity from wiring connection to the positive post into the unit.
Crazy...it looks like there never was contact as the connector was completely isolated within the white plastic and never made contact to the positive post.

Now lubed, working great and a few cycles burned off the residual lube so ready to install

You repair these - have you ever seen the end connector tab have zero continuity to the attaching post?
SMH (Shake My Head) - blew me away and I started wondering how it ever could have worked...

Hello Scott, yes, I do repair them, nothing but refinishing.
Never ran into issues, and I am a complete ZERO in electronics.

Well, just don't lubricate the push shaft and apply power unless you are in a well ventilated area as it literally smokes - LOL!
