Just dropped line to my dear friend in her beloved Christchurch. Deeply concerned, as she lives and works in City now, as does youngest daughter - who preps court documents . . . & apparently . . . Council Chambers building is gone. Frequent updates: http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/4688671/Christchurch-quake-Running-report
Not good... jeez, those 'end is nigh' folk might not be so crazy after all - floods, fires, cyclones, wars, earthquakes... world seems to be tilting on its axis.

http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/4688671/Christchurch-quake-Running-report Within the last hour - 3.15pm : 80 per cent of Christchurch is without power. People are advised to stay off cell phones. 3.06pm: Telecom says it is experiencing serious over-loading and has asked people not make calls unless it's an emergency.
I visited Christchurch just over 1 month ago. We were a little nervous and now I feel very worried for the people we met, including the guys at Auto Restorations. Thoughts are with those involved. Pete
We,re thinkin' of you up here in FNQ,as you were for us a couple or so weeks ago. PS,I think Kerrari might be right, the universe has been moving in mysterious ways.
Lots of media coverage regarding the quake over here today. We live 80kms away to the south but were in Christchurch today when it happened. The damage is unbelievable, much more severe that the 7.1 several months ago. There are still high numbers of people trapped and several large areas are unable to be accessed due to damage to bridges, roads etc.Liquifaction is really severe in some areas with water and sand very evident. There are several fires in large city buildings being fought by helecopters with monsoon buckets. The Lyttelton road tunnel is closed also. There are 1500 people at present in Hagley park unable to get home. There is no shelter there but I believe that the large marques set up for the Elleslie flower show are being utilised tonight. To add to the problem,it is raining.Damage to beautiful historic buildings previously undamaged,or lightly damaged in the earlier quake is heart breaking. It is great to see the caring shown on Ferrarichat by members.
