Guess I can start posting pictures of my project. For those of you who have not heard yet, here's a project that will be raising lot of questions as to why or why not. I just like things out of the ordinary. And this one is.
Bought this GTV6 from a gentleman in Long Beach, CA with a bad engine and not so great color. At the same time I had this red 355 that I bought for parts. Since fixing the Alfa was not worth it to me, said to myself, "Self, what do you think you want to do with this two cars?" The "self" told me to chop them both and make one great car out of it.
The project will end up being a 1986 Alfarrari GTV6 or whatever name you want to call it. Will take suggestions. It will be a two seater, mid engine with tons of 355 components.
As of today, I was able to size up the width of the GTV6 with the inner clip of the 355 and is roughly installed. No pics of that yet. Maybe on the next run.

    Enjoy

OK, I will ask the obvious....Why?

As I am sure you know, you will put tons of time and money into something that will probably look a bit odd, function poorly, and have little value or return on investment (not critical I understand to many folks). I see these sorts of things on various TV shows...."what if we put a hemi in a ice cream truck sorts of things". I just don't get it. Just cuz ya can, doesn't mean ya should.

With that said, don't take this as a bashing, not my intent at all. My respect for the gumption, skill and ingeniuity that it will take. Just don't understand why you wouldn't take a fried 355 for example and make a dedicated tracker out of it or something engineered similar that would have some final enjoyment value and function? You know, be Iron Man or something freaky cool, take over the universe, etc. This just strikes me as weird.

Peace, and carry on my friend....

    like the 308 sprint.
my 355 is for parts only and I am not a track guy. Or at least now. Have other obligations with two little kids. Like the GTV6s and I agree the prices are on the move. The car was a solid car but by the time I got done with the engine, paint and other misc items, I would have been way over what the car would be worth.
This GTV6 is going to be as stock looking as possible from the outside. No fancy air intakes or other stuff like that so much so that I may not even install the side cooler and radiators. They may end up in the front with piping. Will retain its stock front end with the lights and bumper, stock rear end with the hatch, lights and rear bumper, stock hood, all windows and so on.

Appreciate all comments and suggestions. We have to be ready for anything when posting topics like this. Its just for you guys to see something new and keep the juices flowing. It will take a while to finish it since this is not my profession, but I am doing most of the work from my parking garage as you can see from the pics. Final welding and trimming will ge done at a friends shop. LEts hope I stick with it to the end :)

Well good for you - seriously. But if you were worried about "I would have been way over what the car would be worth on the GTV6", this project will make that look like the best idea since peanut butter. Rebuilding that 355 motor will spin you a couple of times (I assume it isn't a running beast). A 600 HP GM crate motor would be far cheaper and way more powerful if you are looking for that "holy crap" factor.

Geez, I hate myself for even saying this stuff (I loved the comment about making purists puke), cuz I am really not in that camp. But...the reality is there is less than a 10% chance that you will ever drive this thing. It is the sad truth of most restoration projects, let alone one off chops unless you are a star of a reality tv show.

But with that negativity spew, I commend your spirit. Want to make a friendly wager though? If you get it built in less than 2 years I will personally send $100 to the charity of your choice, if I am right you do the same for me? Fair enough?

    1. Someone is being punked
    2. It is April 1st.
    3. Pot is now fully legal in California
    4. All of the above.

    I LOVE IT!

I say do it! It reminds me of the Citroen Van with 355 propulsion in it.

love you guys all. Mark my words. This project will be done and I will keep this car for myself. I will take on the challenge of the $100.00 to a choice of charity until Feb 24, 2013 given 2012 is a hoax :)

Seen it but the diff is that they have put citroen panels on a 355. My intention is to retain as much of the original Alfa lines as possible. It wont be 100% but will try.
    Issues
Steering Column needs to be shortened.
Cooling either via Lamborghini style side/top air intakes or piping to the front of the car.
Q/panels need to be a bid wider. Working with a friend on a wheel dimension to keep them as narrow as possible but not loose the wide traction.

Oh ye, the engine needs to be totally redone. Plugzit, here I come. Soon

    Awesomeness.

I forgot to mention the chevy engine note from previous reply, but, if I wanted a 600hp ford or chevy, which I don't, I probably would have bought a 2006 Pontiac GTO and used that engine. Cant have a rumbling crate motor with magnaflow on an Italian car. Come on men :) :)

Interesting. The first car I had was a 4 cylinder Alfetta GT. Fun car, but no comparison to my 355.

I just came across this thread while searching another topic, so I have to ask what ever became of this project? I like the idea! This is a good project to evoke the Renault R5 Turbo or the Ford Shogun in Italian form...
