No, its further north of SV, as Ocean curves sharply right and downhill, heading into the Palisades. It's the large complex on the corner.

Ah, yes, when I used to live in Santa Monica. I drove by that building all the time. I remember on nice, unseasonably warm, January days I would leave work at noon and drive up the La Salsa in Malibu (the one with the huge guy in the sombrero out front) for lunch.

Wow!! That's my neck of the woods but I've never seen that house. I wish I knew where it was so I could swing by to check it out.

    Hi Chas,

Yes. It's the two high-rise buildings on the northeast corner of Ocean and San Vicente. My kids call it our tall house.

Interesting - what lake is it?
there is a very high demand on the rare lakefront properties in Carinthia and most of them are overpriced!

Wow... how do you keep the interior of something like that from growing mold, etc?

Here's a couple pics of my beachhouse in NJ. I'm about to rip the entire exterior off and redo the house in a combination of curtainwall glass and core-ten steel. Should look pretty awesome when done and it will definitely lose the 80's Miami Vice look. I'll miss it, but you can't stop progress.

that's the problem w/ cutting edge designs, they don't age well.

I'd leave it just like it is. I like it.

Honestly, I like the house as-is. I think it's moved beyond the awkward 80s looks and now looks more like classic art-deco contemporary. I will admit the glass blocks date it slightly, but if I were to spend money on updates I would redo the front landscaping. Neoclassical flower boxes? The spiral cypress by the frontdoor is alos a major clash with the design language of the house. I would go either tropical or sculptural and ditch the lawn altogether. Maybe some flax or other uniquely shaped plants. The white stucco creates a wonderful backdrop for specimen plants.

Thanks. It's not that i don't like the look (I did buy it after all) but the DryVit exterior is failing after 22 years of beachfront exposure and storms and Chubb doesn't want to insure it anymore. I get your points about the landscaping, all of which is going to be redone as part of the re-build.

Nice house Tim. I like it the way it is. Possibly some minor changes.

But I must admit, makes for a very good base for a fun modern home project. :)
