What's the best plug to use in a street-driven 246? Traditional, platinum, iridium? Any specific brand and type that seems to be best? I have been running Autolite 51's which are one heat range cooler than the BP7ES NGK recommends on their website and they seem perhaps a bit sooty. Jim
I should clarify that although I am using a Crane XR700 trigger the car has a standard coil, not a CD system. Jim O
For an inductive ignition setup such as your XR-700 fine tip iridium or platinum plugs will give you the best results, especially for hot/cold starting and better combustion at higher revs. My recommendation for the 246 is NGK's BPR7EIX or EVX. NGK BP6ES or BP7ES are the recommended plugs for the original Dinoplex AEC101 or AEC103 CDI (capacitive) setup.
