Nick, you're car is a league on it's own! With all that technical improvement combined with a stunning and timeless appearance. In my opinion there's no better proof of the potential of this F-car. A deep bow for all that passion that is put in it. Regards Marcel
Okay, I found this well-known broschure pic that has enough shadow to make Microsoft Paint work. The first pic is unmodified. I think the OEM-look 17-inchers in the second pic are really well proportioned by today's standards. Overall, I think it really enhances the timelessness of the car as a whole. Putting on wheels that are too modern creates contrast that has the effect, to some degree, of making the rest of the car look outdated. Also added 18's in the third pic. Not bad, but not as classy as the 17's. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I must be old fashioned I think the bigger wheels make the cars look like hot wheels. On the new cars thats fine as they were designed for them. I am not picking on anyones choice just my opinion. I actually like the big fat XWX'x but went with the 16QV wheels as they wer an option for my model and think they look good and still give the bump in handling. I found the Bridgestone S-02s to be a great tire OE on the Honda 2000 Rob
I also have a problem with my wheels in that although the OD is identical to the OEM setup, my wheels seem to have a huge gap at the arches. I think lowered it would look great but I dont have the "goons" (read as testicles ) to do that especially as there does not seem to be one standard way of doing it. I would have stuck with origional concave wheels all day, but not my horrible convex '89 ABS ones. Skin.
Any other pictures of BBS E50 wheels? I have a set sitting in the garage that I am debating selling or refinishing. Ferrari 308 spec wheels. 5x108 16x8 et 11 16x7.5 et 11
I realize these are very old posts, but since someone else necro'd the thread, I'll take another chance to get on my soapbox about something near and dear to my heart. It's a law of nature, just like F=ma, that: The distance between the lip of the wheel and the top of the tire needs to occupy more than 50% of the distance between the lip of the wheel and the fender! Otherwise your big wheel upgrade will look odd. This can be achieved by lowering the car or putting a taller tire on. It's very much worth measuring when planning out an upgrade.

The 308 & Boxers seem to have more space above the wheel as part of the design The GT4 seems to sit low on the wheels. Mine suspension is stock, the springs are within spec and the wheels are almost the same size as the 14"x 70 series XWX. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

That's about the best looking wheel you can put on these cars. And I love the track-rat look. That was a result of Spa, wasn't it? Some freeform discussion from someone who doesn't have much innate design sense, but hangs out with genuine automotive design guys. Disclaimer: My 308 has 18" 360 wheels on it. 17" is the best size for these cars. 18s get into some real challenges: I feel that they throw the balance (design-wise, not speaking about handling, etc) off and stretch the car to appear taller. Especially at the rear. The massive wheel seems to make the rear overhang seem shorter, and from the wrong angle makes the car, in the side view, look taller and not as long and sleek as it does otherwise. 18s limit your tire sidewall. This becomes a concern aesthetically because of "Don's 50% sidewall rule" that states in order to prevent looking like a 4x4, you need to have MORE THAN 50% of the space between the rim and the fender filled with tire. The more extreme, modern rubber you put on these things, the further you get away from the way the suspension was designed to work; now you've got this super-stiff, non-impact absorbing tire that's not providing some of the functions the original engineers expected your shocks, springs & bushings to have going on under you. (In order to drive in Michigan, I selected my tires to maximize sidewall height yes, in part for looks, but with an eye toward impact absorption, too). Of course, there's a whole lot more discussion about if you're trying to design a comprehensive upgrade, but this note has already gone way beyond my original intent!
+1 That size (dia & width) are perfect. Please let me know if you ever decide to sell. I feel the next best thing is what I've got here...16x7 & 16x8 HREs: Image Unavailable, Please Login
Awesome! How to the center caps fasten on the HRE's? I can't tell from the pic if there is a cap bolt that holds the center on like the Compomotives.
Thanks! Kind of hard to explain, but I'll try...there is a cover plate that is held on by three machine screws. The heads of the screws are covered by the large faux center nut that screws onto the cover plate. It's nice and clean. LMK if you want more info and I can take a pic.
Hey Chris, I did the seats about 10 years ago...the original leather was cracking and it was cheaper to get new seats than to recover mine. At the time I bought Corbeau A4 seats (don't think they make them anymore). They were an all black cloth seat and fit me and the car nicely. About 3 or 4 years ago, I decided to recover them as the black cloth was starting to fade and tear. I special ordered the covers from Corbeau with red centers and faux leather on the side bolsters. Let's catch up sometime... Henry
Is anyone running 8's in the front and 10's in the rear? I'm curious to know what the optimum widths are for wheels like the Compomotives. If you guys wouldn't mind sharing what wheel halve combos you are running that would be great!
Does anyone want another set to refinish? Rare BBS Motorsport E50 wheels Specs: 2x 16x8 et11 2x 16.7.5 et11 5x108 PCD (Were originally on a 308) They can be run as is, but I would personally refinish them back to their former glory. They look AMAZING on the car and are extremely light (15 lbs ea.)
Funny you mention that. I bought these wheels in 2010 from a guy from Scottland (GB) which started using 18" on his trackcar. About 1.5 year later he asked me if I would considder selling them back to him as the 18" did not work out on the track. He actually said they felt like removing the balance of the car. However he indeed mentionned the handling!
