A new book is hitting the market about Bernie titled "No Angel – The secret Life of Bernie Ecclestone". It seems to be full of dirty little secrets. One of them about the relationship between Alonso and Hambone during the McLaren stint. The book allegeds, that Alonso asked Dennis to not give Hami's McLaren enough fuel for the Hungarian GP.

    Also Bernie gets a beating:

    http://www.speedweek.ch/Formel1/news/18051/Ecclestone-schmollt.html

Allegedly Slavica teased her smaller husband in front of friends and complained about his lack of <ahem> passion.

True or not, it sounds like this book is going to be a fascinating read and reveal a few "incovenient truths".

Won't bother Mr E too much as he counts his money..........If he starts now, he wouldn't finish, rather like the Chinese population count, if they lined up in rows of 2, the count would never get done, always new ones joining on the back.

Successful, rich and famous people always unleash jealousy among their contemporaries.

That's just a fact of life...

Had he been poor fellow with no ambition, a man who had failed in his life, Bernie Ecclestone wouldn't attract any comment; but he is just the opposite.

I suppose criticism comes with the territory for him...

In the contrary, the lives of successful people is very interesting to examine.

Bernie Ecclestone started from nothing: he was an apprentice gas fitter at 16.
He now rules over a sporting empire and made a fortune out of it.

    That is just fascinating ...

Tru dat, love him or hate Bernie has made F1 a lot of money for alot of people, mainly himself but none the less, a great business man.

    Unlike the mess here..

A1 Grand Prix, which is in administration with debts of £100m, and A1 Holdings, which has been liquidated with creditors claiming more than £300m. These two companies are linked to Tony Teixeira, the South African diamond entrepreneur.

Ever wonder what F1 would be like if Bernie never existed?

Most probably wouldn't have existed, in the format we know today.

IMO The only BIG mistake that Bernie made was letting Mosley loose on F1 for too long.

However I know or realize why he did.

Apprently he made a fortune before he entered F1...

I'm less interested in Bernie's empire building (followed the story as it developed) and much more in the intricate details and secrets normally not published. Particularly those that got something to do with the drivers.

    Looking forward to your comments.

If it is anywhere as near as good as "The Piranha Club" then it is a must read.

I've met and dealt with Bernie. He is a very nice man, and very smart & direct. You can see immediately why he runs F-1. He is focused on the whole picture and eats and brethes F-1.

If it were not for him, most of the F-1 we see today would not exist... FISA - FIA would most likely have kept it at a "clubby" level... more like F-1 in the late 70's....

FISA - FIA were more about the circuit owners and promotors... bernie was all about the teams.

Mosley and Bernie pulled a coupe in the 90's ... and it was great for the then owners of F-1 teams .... but TV also was the death knell for traditional F-1... the move to the east is good, but not at the expense of traditional races... Bernie created the monster and now has to serve it or else it will kill him.... and F-1.

I have a love hate of Bernie... when I was dealing with him and Allsport.. early 90's it was great! (Before the Huge $$$) but now he has really ruined the "sport" and made is a traveling show. Its WWF on wheels.

I also ordered the book, and also Bernie's autobiography by Susan Watkins to compare.

I have never met Ecclestone myself but living near Bexleyheath, I came to know many people who were in contact with him when he started as motorcycles dealer, then second-hand car dealer, back in the 50s. I know people who did business with him, bought cars from him, or rented premises to him and many other juicy stories about Bernie's early years. Many stories abound about Bernie around Bexleyheath, some of them probably true, others not so true. Stuff like alleged insurance fraud, trouble with the police, trail of unpaid bills, etc...
We will see if all of it is revealed in the book.

It has been frequently alleged that Bernie Ecclestone was part of the Great Train Robbery gang that was never caught!

So Alonso is a whinner and Bernie a basterd.

I don´t need to buy a book to know that.

The clue is in the title "The secret Life of Bernie Ecclestone"

Is the author a fly on wall ?

How would he know the ins and outs of BE life without inside knowledge. He would have to tread very carefully

Nobody said he wasnt a good businessman, he managed to get the sole rights for F1 and good luck to him. Still dont give a RA what hes done though

The author did have inside knowledge - Ecclestone cooperated closely over a period of 2 or 3 years. The clue is in the title, but in the part that you left out: "No Angel". Apparently when they began their discussions Bower asked Ecclestone if he would be allowed to write about warts and all, negatives as well as positives, and Bernie replied "Tom, I'm no angel".
