joe cogbill"s car!! i loved watching him run against paul spruell in his alfa. when the alfa finished it was pretty tough to beat but joe's car was bulletproof.

a great speedster no doubt w/ more wins than any other speedster in history i suspect.

I remember that add. It opened up to several pages of "then" current 1980s Porsches. I think I still have a few of their old ads at home somewhere. I like their old ads more than their recent ones.

I agree. Some of the news ones are arrogant.

Yeah, and I tend to also like their old cars more than their recent one!!

Kinda like some of the new owners!

Went to a party, lady hosting the party says "ohh, I want you to meet Jay, he drives a Porsche too." She introduces us and he says, very snidely, oh, so you're drivng the OLD Porsche out ther huh? To which I replied, "there are no old Porsches, only new owners!

I guess 356 owners are exempt from the "oh it's an OLD Porsche" snobbery.

I remember when the 911 Turbo was the only turbocharged car. The mystique back then was surreal.

Then everyone had turbos five years later -- Dodge Colt, Merc diesels, etc.

    It also ran in print.

Bullfighter, the funny thing is that I was driving my 930, easily recognized as one of Porsche's Icons. I'm sure this guy would have mistaken the 356 for a VW.

Later I overheard the guy telling someone "how fast the Carrera is." As I walked by I looked at the two of them and casually uttered "Pinks?, anytime.. let me know"

Yes, I remember that ad. I have a copy of the print one at home somewhere. Great ads, although, I wasn't crazy about their slogan back then something like "Driving in its most beautiful form?" I much prefered the late 70's early 80's slogan, "Nothing even comes close" or the Risky Business line that later became their slogan, "Porsche, there is no substitute."

    Best regards,
    Dino

Problem is it seems like every clapped out '70s 911 grew a whale tail and body kit at some point.

For 356s, the problem is that 90 percent of the Speedsters out there are basically Hasbro or Fisher Price plastic "tribute" cars.

Uh, it was the PAP speedster that got the thread started. Cogbill's Porsche busness is now
gone for the most part. I think dc automotive finally bought him out.. or at least bought all of the inventory. They got StutgartHaus of parts as well in SC.. Gogbill is still around though.. I usually see him every April at Hershey.

Most of those clapped out 70's cars have lost the whale tail and been restored, or parted so others could be.

Yeah, if you want a Speedster it'll probably be a kit unless you want to spend serious coin! I've been amazed lately that some Speedster project cars have brought numbers in the $60 to $90K range with much assembly needed!

    +1.

Had to stop at Autozone yesterday just to see a peculilar 911 in their lot. It was a late 70's 911SC largely in grey primer with "cookie cutter" wheels and a dreadfully cheap looking aftermarket completely rubber whale tail that was all black. A very sad existence for some older P cars.

$60K will get you a chassis number plate sitting atop a pile of OEM orange-brown dust.
