What a cock. (The seller; not you, Sam.)

I've sold enough cars to know that you get joyriders and tirekickers, and yes they need to be weeded out, but this is a petty and arrogant way to try to do it. Whatever.

Not exactly the same thing, but "no test rides" is very common for motorcycles. Too much chance you are dealing with an idiot that will destroy the vehicle.

Usually there is some sort of verbal agreement that if the new owner has a problem with the bike they can bring it back within the hour after money has changed hands. If he takes it out and blows it up doing wheelies on the freeway, he is on his own.

As for the 308 itself. High miles, odd GTO mirrors, probably failry tatty condition. It will never be a show car but if mechanically sound could be a driver. Is $15k the real market for a car like this today?

I'll go with a 'Fairly Tatty Condition'.
The car has $5k in GTO mirrors......and "small drill holes in doors where mirrors weren't put on correctly the first time" The author makes it sound like there is more wrong with the car than right.

If it doesn't sell, it's market value is lower than that. Wish I had piles of money and space. I'd have a collection like bigtex. Alas I only have one ferrari :)

I suppose all you could do is a compression check and then roll the dice on a car that doesn't run.

I will be curious to see what it sells for. My guess is $18-20k. It is definitely the type of car a DIY person would want.

Always wondered how raised white letters would look on a Ferrari....with the dark wheels it looks more like a Firebird!

Parts cars are lower than that. I think $14k is all the money in the world.

I keep hearing people allude to 308s being gotten for from between 16-30K, but all I ever see listed are cars between 30-45K. I wonder if looking to members on this board would be the best place to look for a car, since they are naturally enthusiastic of the model, and would think them worth more than a general outlet where a 308 is nothing more than car #234556AD76 or something...

cars.com, oodle, vast, Hemmings, ebay, google, yahoo autos. Cheap 308s are out there, but there is " cheap and fixable" and "cheap / trainwreck". The last three Qv's i have pursued were with dealers and they need $8k+ worth of work, and that with my connections on parts, labor / me doing the work. Gets to a point you should just get a good car to begin with. I would stay away from cheap carb cars unless you are very very good at doing the work yourself. Buy from an individual, and buy a car that just needs maintenance. head-gaskets and transaxle work are no fun.

Just the opposite actually. We all think our cars are worth more but we're the first to jump on the value of a car for sale - "It's worth 20k tops." Forums can be the best and worst place to buy a car, but in general I'll bet forum selling prices are slightly lower than more open-market sales. That said, you can find good cars needing a service all day long for under 30k. Occasionally a deal will pop up and someone will get a real bargain, but the fact is the "good" 308 market circles around 30k these days, with cheap cars (usually needing a lot of work) going for a lot less.

I bought my car well, but it doesn't fit into the "cheap" category of this thread. :D

That last one in Miami is the guy that got banned a couple of weeks ago here. I asked him not to spam this board like he did some Porsche boards and he got a little upset.....He was first selling the engine and roller separate with a bad trans, then together, then....... I guess now he says the trans will work after driving a bit and his price is dropping.

    Good day All,

I know nothing of the car or the owner and just found the ad and thought it might be of interest to someone here... although the car does look tired and it looks like tailights amongst other things are missing...

    Cheers,

    Sam
